Thanks for the further info. As I say, I cannot tether- I am on giff gaff, and none of the packages allow this

AFAIK, the Samsung TV will not work with Wi-Fi without purchasing a dongle. If you want to connect the TV to the internet, you will need an internet connection that offers a wired option.

(I haven't read the full thread, but if you're deciding to go with O2 or Sky etc, they will offer this option)
  • Your iPhone can work as a wireless modem use it as a wireless modem and connect to all computers, i think it should be a temporary solution to you.

OP has stated already several times that the GiffGaff tariff their iPhone is on disallows them from tethering.
To be honest, unless you have an unlimited 3G connection with your phone or dongle, and top notch coverage at your home, it won't be worth it, and it's far less hassle, and probably cheaper, to get broadband to your home, and plug your TV into it. You'll need unlimited (OK at least 10GB allowance) broadband too, as 2 programmes on iPlayer could use up 2GB.

If you only want TV then what's wrong with an aerial and a set top box? Cost 20 quid all in. Or get your tv as part of a package with broadband internet?
    e.g
    phone
    internet
    TV

Forget your phones and the IPTV stuff, come to that. We're not really there yet, in the UK.

You will need a broadband connection. Either a) over a telephone line. This provided by BT o A. N Other or via cable e.g Virgin.
You will also need a TV licence of course. Otherwise you will be breaking the law.

Otherwise, should could look at a package from the likes of Sky, BT or Virgin. Check the cheap broadband section on the moneysavingexpert site. All you need to know there..

Your question is I want internet access AND to be able to use my TV. Pump internet into your TV and you still don't have internet, unless you've also got a Router (WIFI, or otherwise)
You will need to pay for a phone line, or a cable connection for internet access. This approx 8-15 pounds per month plus your internet connection on top. If you're going for a TV included then that's approx another tenner, plus what you have to pay to the BBC
