Best excuse for non-paying

They then explained that during the week their child aged about 4 ( i remember as the child was similar age to mine) had been playing on the laptop and placed a few bids/bought items on ebay and they apoligised for my inconvience, and explained that other sellers were fine with it and had be understanding and let her off payment.
I hope the ""little one"" gets onto and signs up for one of the many Casino sites I get spammed for, that would really get interesting.I'd rather be an Optimist and be proved wrong than a Pessimist and be proved right.0 -
How about sellers and their excuses...
I paid £32 for a model car for my partner, and after a week heard nothing. So I mailed. "We have had a family loss and I won't be back in the country until the following Monday." Well ok, that's plausable. So I waited. Nothing. Then their negs from other buyers started piling up one after the other. After a month and no response I escalated it to a PayPal claim. Just got back £17!!. So much for seller protection.
But for them to quote "Family Loss," takes the biscuit. My Dad has terminal cancer, and had an anyuesm this time last year. It DOES NOT stop you from doing things except for a few days maybe. If anything eBay keeps your mind occupied from all of the pain going on. So for them to have said at that time to me "Family Loss," just really insulted me. If someone had died then to abandon everyone for a month when you've got their money seemed a bit dodgy.
"Sorry, I'm not coming into work for a month as my brother in law has died."
These kind of excuses are some of the lowest possible. I never would have dreamt of saying to any of my buyers that I was off to the hospital today so they'd have to wait, I wouldn't even tell them anyway. I packaged my things up and took them with me. It kept me occupied away from what was going on.
eBay certainly does have some immoral and messed up people on it.0 -

You're thinking of Buyer Protection - and you don't get that unless the listing qualifies. My TV is broken!
Edit: refunded £515 for TV 1.5 years out of warranty - thank you Sale of Goods Act! :j0 -

That's why you should NEVER claim 'My auntie/mum/etc is v. ill/in hospital/dying' for a sickie. Karmically, it's just asking for trouble. I'm not pro-superstition, but there are limits...0 -

Ebay just reflects the population in general.ilovemycats wrote: »..eBay certainly does have some immoral and messed up people on it.0 -
I had to email my seller last weekend because Virgin Media were having a problem with access to secure websites so I couldn't access ebay, paypal or my online banking. I half expected the seller to come back saying "aye right pay up". I even asked my neighbour if I could use their internet but they were same supplier. I copied the listing from Virgin Media's site into the email and apologised at every opportunity, even inviting the seller to check my feedback as I was so worried they would think I was taking the pee! Thankfully all got sorted within a few days. It was either that or I would have had to send a cheque for under £3 when I had the money sitting in my paypal account!Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no. 014

I have had several people claiming family loss but I am always worried it might be true so I don't press them. Maybe I'm too naive!
Never had a "child" bidder, but have had a drunk one who paid up no problem.:happylove0
