as I said when I started the thread send it back through the post

And what exactly does this achieve? It still needs to end up in the bin somewhere, and now creates more global warming and holes in ozone as has been mentioned as it has to be transported back to the grotty industrial estate from where it came

So if through my efforts to get this mail stopped, I still receive some, if I cant shred it, and cant put it in the bin, what am I then supposed to do with it?!

    Must ... resist ... Must ... resist ... :-)
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)
  • Anyone sends me junk mail (oxfam included!) i send it back in their envelope. (minus the oxfam pen though). It keeps royal mail going, these companies have a junk mail...i mean targeted mailing shot budget anyway that they need to use up so will do it regardless. Also, if enough people send the rubbish junk back they will get the message much quicker that 1) people don't like this form of marketing and 2) we can make it financially unviable for them to continue, which is the thing they take the most notice of.

What gets me though, i have a tv licence, but they sent 6 letters to my wife threatening her to get a tv licence or else. We posted all the crap back and they eventually got the message. But it cost 6 letters for them to check their computer to correct things. And it cost me one phonecall to point out their error which they ignored in the first place.

Now ive started going round and posting leaflets that come through the door, back through the doors of the people that send them (only if im going past anyway - i dont make a special trip) ie dry c;eaning companies and takeaways/gyms etc etc. If i wanted a service like that i'd go and find it rather than have my doorstep cluttered with crap that takes up space in my bin (my council has recycling, but they put the contents of the recycle box in the dustbin wagon so a bit pointless really).

    What's OTT?
I have provided 6 points of useful information for people to stop getting junk mail. Which I think is a lot more useful than "put it in the bin".

I forgot about the electoral roll which is a good point.

I do believe it's possible for people to change things.

If 100,000 people fo it (and lots of people are starting to) then it could change the way that businesses operate.

All progress depends on the "unreasonable man".
If I'm the "unresaonable man/woman" then so be it, but I'm not going to give up like you, I'm going to try to attempt to change things (little by little).
People did change the poll tax so I do believe there is historical precedent.
If people protest about junk mail then companies (like royal mail) will give up trying to make money out of it and focus their efforts elsewhere.

The poll tax caused riots, thats why it was scrapped' No sane person is going to riot over Junk Mail.

What it achieves is it sends the problem of disposing of it back to the people who sent it. If you don't like that choose one of the other excelent suggestions that best suits you

Why not put the leaflets in the envelopes as well? You could try and get the envelope over weight if your details are not included then surely the recipient must be liable to pay the extra postage

I dont know if this is true, but I have been told that people take shredded documents from bins and piece them together for ID theft so be careful

With the state of my credit history at moment from when I was a financial train wreck a few years ago I would challenge anyone to do anything useful with my documents :p

Besides, junk mail very rarely if at all has any information on that isnt in public domain so nothing really that useful on it anyway, nothing to warrant the effort of going through my bins and piecing together thousands of strands of paper anyway

funniest reply so far thanks for the laugh
