Bank of Ireland Credit Card

I have just got an application from the Bank of Ireland for their Ulster Rugby Mastercard. I intend to stooze with it. In the application they ask for a credit card statement for balance transfers. As i wanted to stooze the BT i have no such statement. Anyone got anyidea what can i do?

Cheers

  • Why not tell the truth and not complete that section of the form with anything?

Return it without the BT filled in and then phone them when you receive the card and they'll probably do it over the phone

How long did it take for your application form to come through? I have recently asked for the application form as well

    Don't bet on it, StphnStevey...

I just received my Ulster Rugby card this morning (took a few weeks) and I rang up Dublin to do a B/T. The young lady said "We don't do balance transfers over the phone, so we don't". When I asked how I should do it then, she said I should contact the other card! When I disputed this, she went off & said could I fax them 6 months-worth of statements from my other card... To cut a long story short, no I couldn't (or rather wouldn't). This was much too much trouble for the sake of the paltry £2.5k credit limit they'd given me (and I'm not even sure I would've been allowed to stooze the whole £2.5k anyway) so I've cancelled the card on the day I received it! (Is this a record...?)
Expect the worst & hope for the best...

On reading this article and having about £800 on a credit card with a 0% offer that is about to run out I thought I would transfer it to the Bank Of Ireland's Ulster Rugby MasterCard.

Has anyone else had problems with this bank?

I received this card with a £2500 limit.

On phoning to ask if I could set up internet banking I was told that I could only set it up if I had a bank account with them and they could not set it up with just a credit card, which was a bit annoying.

I phoned up to request a balance transfer, to which they replied that I must have sent in a current CC statement when I applied for the card, which I had done (and which I have not received back yet)

They checked said that this first balance transfer had gone through and was showing on my account, though I have not yet seen it appear on my other CC on-line statement yet, but it probably hasn't cleared yet.

I asked if I could make a further balance transfer from another card and they said I could only transfer from one card and it has to be requested on opening of the account and statements needed to be sent.

I also asked them to confirm my APRs for balance transfers and purchases were 0% for 6 months, the woman I was speaking to said I could only have 0% on one OR the other not both, and she also checked with her supervisor. Who confirmed what she had said. Yet on phoning their sales line they said it was 0% for both for 6 months implying I could have a balance transfer and still make purchases on the card with no interest for 6 months.

So now I seem to have £1700 of credit which I cant use for anything

Looking at the terms and conditions I do not see anywhere where it states I can only have 0% on purchases OR balance transfers (not both). I cannot find where it states that I can only make one balance transfer and only if I ask when I first open the card, I also cannot find where it states I cannot use the internet banking service

any help would be greatly appreciated

I have spoken to another customer service person who confirmed with sales that you do get 0% on balance transfers and any further purchases you make on this card so you can still use the "Simply Spend" method.

You must send a statement on the opening of the account as they don't do balance transfers over the phone

also You cannot set up internet banking unless you have a bank account with them

I got one of these cards but closed it immediately, not worth the hassle unless you are deperate. Too many time consuming controls such as sending other cc statement and doing the balance transfer by cheque.

I may be very much in the minority here but would like to find out some info:

as someone who already has a bank acc with BoI and also managed to send them the statement they asked for at the time of application - I have now received my card - so am unlikely to run into the problems that others have suffered from - so I will probably keep it till the BT runs out.

Has anyone else actually managed to get them to transfer a balance or do they need to be chased? The card has effectively been opened now for over a week and still nothing appearing on my MBNA balance.

I suppose if they send a cheque to the other bank it could take a couple of weeks for it to appear!

Bank of Ireland are clearly inept or not used to the demand.

I applied and tried to transfer £1000 and £1500 from respective cards ending their 0% deals. I've stoozed larger sums , but I'm trimming it down as I refuse to pay BT fees.

I sent my bills as proof. I had to ring them inumerable times to chase the application.

Eventually I paid one card off and left just one remaining BTas I was due to be charged.

I've since found out that they have sent a transfer quoting the wrong credit card number and despite registering a £1500 debt on my Ireland card, my existing card hasn't received any funds. I only found this out after about five seperate calls.

I've complained in writing and I've been told the draft will be resent.

    Bargepoles come to mind.
  • Barge poles! Absolutely! I've followed moneysaving expert's advice for years and found them good on lots of stuff, but this Ulster Rugby Card from BOI has caused no end of hassle! Trying to transfer from another card just over £3k, have sent bank and cc statements to addresses in Belfast and Dublin at their request and getting no-where fast! Started in April, have the card, but still can't sort a credit increase and subsequent balance transfer! Had to provide everything but my inside leg measurement to get the card in the first place!! Already paying interest on old card that I don't need!
