Same problems here about transferring balances. I was phoned a couple of times by them. Totally incompetent. They said they couldnt transfer the amount because my card number was different from the account. Forwarded credit card statements and still they couldnt transfer amount. In the end I had to pay other card myself out of my savings. They were supposed to take a D.D out of my account today for minimum amount. Nothing has come out. No doubt they will try and levy a charge because I havent paid. Will use card in short term as it has 6 months purchases free. After that it gets cut up into a thousand pieces

I have Post office credit card which is run by the bank of ireland and they are a nightmare - can't pay over the phone, direct debit must be set up by post etc. i certainly would not have anything more to do with them

    Hi all,

I'm also really annoyed with BoI. I applied for their credit card after seeing on this website that it was 0% interest on BTs for six months. I have been stoozing for a few years now following Martin's advice, with no problems till now. Maybe I didn't read all the T & Cs as carefully as I should have, but I didn't see anything about needing a statement for my BT. I normally just use my Eggmoney card as a mule and transfer funds to that. Of course nothing is owing on this card so it would be quite useless to send them a statement.

What annoyed me most is that in order to open this card , as someone else has already said, they want everything including your inside leg measurement, and I've never known this before?! I ended up sending my passport to them registered delivery so it's actually cost me money so far and now it looks like I won't even be able to use them anyway.

I have thought of transferring one of my other BTs but as it would only give me an extra month and considering all the problems others have had I think it might be better just to cancel my application. Anyone thinking of getting this card should be careful.
  • My experience is similar to 'Mr James' above.
I applied for the Ulster Rugby Card attracted by the 6 month 0% BT offer. I actually did have a balance to transfer (£5000 to Virgin) which was fortunate because they asked for a copy of my Virgin statement with my application.
I waited a while then ran up to enquire and was told I everything was fine and I would have the card within 7 working days of the call and the balance would already have been transferred by the time I received it. However, the very next day I received a letter saying they wanted 3 months credit card statements and 3 months bank statements!
I rang up and asked why and they said it was so they could approve the full 5k credit limit. It took an age on the phone to make them understand I could only send them 2 of my last 3 Virgin statements because they already had one.
Sent off what they wanted and waited a week. Rang up to see where I was up to and they said they wanted 3 months bank and CC statements. I said 'You've already got them!' The bloke put me on hold and came back and said 'So we have. BUT the bank statements need to be full statements showing every transaction.' I replied 'They are and they do.' He put me on hold again and came back and said 'Sorry, so they do. You'll get your card within 7 working days.'
Card eventually arrived (credit limit 3k not 5k by the way) and I rang back to check on the BT. Was told the card was activated on 22 May and 3k should be transferred from Virgin within 7 working days!
Waited in vain for this to happen. Rang Virgin who said they had no idea what I was talking about. Rang Bank of Ireland back who said they didn't know what had happened but would investigate and ring me back next day. They didn't and this then happened FOUR MORE TIMES.
Eventually someone rang back to say they would cancel the previous 'draft' because it had obviously gone astray possibly, they said, because they didn't realise Virgin is an MBNA card and had sent it to the wrong address! (You couldn't make it up!). They would send another draft but it would take another 7 to 10 working days. By now, of course, I'm paying interest on my Virgin card and am very unhappy. I now wait with bated breath to see if the money evr gets to Virgin. Ultimately the Ulster Rugby offer has actually cost me money instead of saving it!
Sorry this has been so long-winded. Any advice or help would be much appreciated.

Boy, I'm glad that I said "I don't think so" & cancelled the card the same day it arrived.... I've saved myself all that fuss & bother as detailed above!
Expect the worst & hope for the best...

    wish i hadn't bothered now!!!

i only got this to stooze......told them i had £5k to BT from Egg (green) card.
problem is that card is sitting at £0 and has been for over a year!!

obviously it's pointless sending any statements!!!

has anyone got a BT without providing CC statements?

do they need them just to check details such as card number/account name etc. are correct or is it to check you do owe money on the card?

i must say this seems very odd indeed??

strangely the bit about proof of ID said i need to provide (0) items from sections A and B on their 'customer verification' list???

anyone else get that? i never even got the list!!

doubt they'd give me a £5k limit anyway....

it really does look like it was a wasted application......i guess if i just leave it 30 days........no harm done??

I'll add my tale of their total incompetence to the list

I applied by 'phone for this card on 10th April.
Paperwork arrived after about 1 week all typed up, just needed to sign it.

In the T&C's re BT's there was a line that was highlighted stating I had to send my last credit card statement for the BT to go through. Posted this on the 20th.
They received it on the 27th April

Got a letter dated 15th May asking for

3 months of original bank statements
3 months of original credit card statements.

Rang Card services and was told that they can only authorise up to 3K of BT without these extra documents.
Pity they didn't tell me that 6 weeks ago when I applied (I asked for a BT of £5K)

As I bank online and a paper statement cost £5.00 each I said I'd be happy with the 3K BT limit.

She then complained that the credit card statement I'd sent her was not current. I pointed out that it was current when I posted the application. rolleyes.gif

Card arrive on 8th JUNE ! BT went painlessly.

DD I setup was cancelled,(not by me ) so I missed the first payment, had to send a cheque.

IMHO I'd recommend people avoid these incompetent idiots!
  • Applied for this back in June in preparation to transfer my balance from the Smart Credit Card, but heard nothing back until yesterday when I had a call from Bank of Ireland asking if I still wanted the card. She said they sent out a credit agreement in June but I didn't receive anything back then.

Today I received the agreement pack and noticed the "send in previous credit card statement" for balance transfer thingy, so I look up this site for some advice and found this thread.

Unfortunately, the Smart card balance was due to be paid beginning of August so I've paid off the amount in full. Although I could send in 3 months of Smart statement with a balance on it, I've read through the Smart credit agreement and it's stated that any excess payment will be returned to the originating account, so I can't even transfer to Smart to transfer to Egg to transfer to my current account because I've already paid it off last week! :(

After reading all your horror stories, I'm not going to bother returning the agreement and will call up the lady I spoke to yesterday to cancel the application. Oh well. This is the end of my stoozing. I got a hundred odd pounds off the Smart card (7,300 limit). :T

I would not use Ulster CC for balance transfers, because they will want to see other cards "original statements". I challenged them on this unsuccessfully and my advice would be do not send in any original statements to any firm unless you really are confident about their data protection. (remember the number of recent thefts of lap tops from bank employees). During my conversation the operator suggested that if i was not happy with the this "policy" i need to speak with a different department in Dublin who by the way don't work Mondays.

This is state of the ARC, read the forum stay clear or only apply if you intend to "spend" to save. Also the credit limit is poor
