Without a shadow of a doubt yes.0

Oh why don't we just tow the UK out to the middle of the Atlantic. And then sink it.
Clearly most people don't care about anything except money - and yet strangely, those same people are quite happy to commit financial suicide."It will take, five, 10, 15 years to get back to where we need to be. But it's no longer the individual banks that are in the wrong, it's the banking industry as a whole." - Steven Cooper, head of personal and business banking at Barclays, talking to Martin Lewis0 -
We might not be a UK for much longer if the Scots do us proud and decide on independance. NI will probably go the same way (hurrah) and so it'll be England and Wales with a subsequently smaller payment to make for EU membership and with more to gain from it. We may even get more out than we put in, especially if the EU chips in for the costs of UK devolution or indeed just takes on the financial burden of NI.0

Can't we tow it out and park it somewhere near Madeira (which has an excellent all year climate)
Chuck Norris can kill two stones with one birdThe only time Chuck Norris was wrong was when he thought he had made a mistakeChuck Norris puts the "laughter" in "manslaughter".I've started running again, after several injuries had forced me to stop0 -
Our current relationship with the EU bears no resemblance to what we voted for in 1975.
There should at least be another referendum. Sooner rather than later. If I don't reply to your post,
you're probably on my ignore list.0 -
I think on balance, and in the current form, the UK is better out then in but the idea of a common market with a free trade area in Europe is broadly good.0

that's a strange thing to say
are you really saying there is no future for states with populations of 60million?
that the future is the USSR (resurrected), Greater China, Expanded USA a new Byzantine empire etc?
and of course many people have doubts about the Eu not simply because of money but lack of democratic accountablity, massive corruption, european arrest warrrants, shocking disregard for environmental issues etc etc.0 -
With the bulk of the EU (the current Eurozone area) clearly dependent on just one nation (you know which I mean) for the foreseeable future, I would rather we remain a voting and vetoing member.
The EU may have economic consequences, but from the start it was not about coal, steel, or other trade. Its about freedoms, and ensuring that any wars we fight are outside rather than inside Europe.0 -

It was always about forging a single nation out of disparate components. That was Monnet's goal from the start. The question we need to address is whether that is A/ possible and B/ desirable.
I would suggest that even if B were the case (I vehemently believe it is not - we need smaller units, not larger ones) A is clearly impossible, as the current crisis has proved. A Greek will never be a Dane - and why should he be forced to try?.0 -
