Buyer claims item not received??

Hi all,
Just wanted some opinions really.
I sold a PS2 on Ebay, guy was in a rush for it as it was a gift - posted it first class recorded immediately.
It was apparantly received and signed for but the day after it was apparantly received the guy emails me to say have I sent it yet and if not to just issue refund as changed mind and doesn't want the item.
I told him I had already posted it and that signature was obtained.
The guy goes off it claiming it hasn't been delivered so I tell him how to view signature online and to check with neighbours - meaning to see if they signed for it as noone was home and had not yet passed it on. He emails me back basically saying it is madness for me to expect him to go examining his neighbours signatures. (Not what I meant *sigh*)
Anyway I try to claim but there is a waiting period, once the time had come I sent a claim form with receipt of posting and recorded slip and all I get back is a letter to confirm definately delivered and I can send a cheque for £2.20 to view signature. (Why would I send cheque when it chows this online??)
Now the guy is pestering me saying he wants a refund now as he will have to buy a new PS2 - even though he had apparantly changed his mind and didn't want one?
I really don't know what to do.
I can't afford to refund him as the item sold was not even mine originally - it was for friend of the family's little boy. I obviously can't take the money back from the child as he will be heartbroken he was specifiaclly selling all his PS2 stuff to pay for a PS3 himself. But I also don't have the money to refund him as I am struggling to even rub 2 pennies together at the moment!!
Is there anything else that Royal Mail can do? Or is there anything I can suggest the guy can do??
Sorry it's such a long blithering post but I am really stressed out!

Hi,
I would stick to your guns. If he has changed his mind etc he should have said before they paid for it. Seems like he/she is trying to pull a fast one.
You have proof of postage etc if its a problem let them complain to Ebay. You have done everything correctly0 -
Did you post it recorded?
I know you say you have, but you can't view a signature on the site with recorded.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
first base covered, you have proof of postage in the form of a recorded delivery slip.
second base also covered, delivery confirmation letter from royal mail, and you say the signature is available online?
the guy is trying to make an !!! out of you, dont take any of it, he hasn't got a case and even if he complains to eBay they will not bother as you have everything covered.
I hope you have not left feedback for him yet, cos he might threaten you with a neg, typical of what these scammers attempt to do.
stick to your guns and contact him through the eBay messaging system, clearly telling him that if he changed his mind thats tough, he should have stated before paying and before you posting the item. also tell him you have proof of postage as well as confirmation of the item being received.
always make all your contact through the eBay messaging system, as you can use that in any argument.0 -
Did the signature correspond with the name you sent it to?0

Yes first class recorded. If you enter the reference number from the bottom of the slip you can now view the signature online.Dream of being mortgage free....

paypal do side with buyers more than sellers, he could say he want to return for refund and that way paypal would be with him, but he's not done that, he's come out and said that he hasn't received it, which is total !!!!!!!!!
if paypal still side with him that would be setting a dangerous precedent. I doubt they would cos like i said before, you have your bases covered.0 -
just viewed the royalmail website and the idiot has signed where they asked him to print name and he's printed name where they asked to sign!
it doesnt matter who signs for it, it was sent to the right address by you and it was delivered by royal mail, end of story.
also, i have never been able to view proof of delivery for my recorded items online, it always says it is not available, are you sure this was recorded and not special delivery?0
