How to clean a gold & diamond ring

Hi
I've done a pretty comprehensive search and can't find the answer to this.
I need to clean a 9ct gold & eternity ring - quickly!
Can anyone suggest anything? Do I dare try Stardrops??
Or must I buy something for the job?
thanks

I clean my engagement ring with a toothbrush and toothpaste (not a whitening one that is too abrasive), brings it up a real treat

our local jewlers use a spot of flash in hot water and a toothbrush to clean rings.

they charge you £5 per item if you were to put it in. so i just did them myself and they were sparklings - just remember to rinse well.

Ernest jones, leslie davis and h samuel all do a free ring cleaning service using a proper machine and will buff it for you too. Rings come up good as new so I'd highly recommend it.

I have two dimond set rings which I wear all the time stacked against my wedding band. I'm absolutely encrusted daaahhlink:rotfl: and I find the best way to keep them clean is too shower in them every night.

My grandma used to drop her diamonds in gin! Suppose to be really OS you could always add tonic and lemon afterwards and have a luvverly drink, then nothig's wasted!

    Hi caris,

Is your ring tarnished or just needs a clean? If it's tarnished place some scrunched up tin foil in a dish. Then add some soda crystals and pour on hot water (not too hot as boiling water can damage the diamond). Immerse the jewellery so that it comes into contact with the tin foil. Leave it for a few minutes, then rinse, dry and polish. I don't know why it works but it does.

If it's not tarnished but just needs a good clean, put some stardrops or washing up liquid into a glass, add warm water and leave the ring overnight. In the morning give it a good brush with an old toothbrush and it'll be sparkling.

There's an older thread with more suggestions that may help:

I'll merge your thread with that one later to keep all the replies together.

    Hi Caris

Dip it in Gin and brush it with a toothbrush. Or give it a little soak in the gin and then just give it a rinse.
