If these painkillers are a worry to you and preventing you from participating in having a normal life as you get so sleepy then why havent you had your medicines reassessed.

Probably because they help with the pain?

I too am one that my meds affect. I gotta have an hour sleep in the afternoon or by 7pm I'm nodding off. But I don't think that's the painkillers but the ones for the trapped nerve. I've tried coming off them, but to no avail, the pain is much worse when I'm off them. Feeling sleepy mid day is something I can learn to live with rather than putting up with the pain of the trapped nerve. They don't kill the pain completely, but certainly make it more tolerable

Some people can afford to go to the gym, others can't.

    Walk around block = free
    press ups = free
    star jumps = free
lifting a chair or tin of beans = free
    body weigh squats = free
    planks = free

Never will I accept cost as an excuse to good health and exercise just another reason people use to avoid the harder options that is a calorie deficit diet, plenty of veg and exercise, slow to start and build up.

I will not condone defence of people not training due to cost, I feel that your post is clouding and avoiding the main principle that obesity is dangerous and should not be excused.

At times when in the morning and feel tired yes I would love to not go for a run, but the knowledge that it is making me healther is more important than the extra 30 mins in bed.

I will get flamed for this but I struggle to see how some one with an ounce of self respect can get to that stage of obesity, when do you think, actually I am 3 stone over weight I should shift it, now 4 stone up to 20 stone over weight?!?

I just fail to see how people allow themselves to get there?!

After christmas (when i have a break, i work twice as hard to ensure I get back into shape and health)

Walk around the block- This is what we're planning for my daughter. I only live up the road, it will probably take her 10-15 mins on her crutches but it's a start, may be able to increase it once she gets her braces.
Press ups - A very difficult exercise for someone with a disability.
Star jumps - Are you having a laugh? I certainly couldn't, that would put more pressure on the knee. And if my daughter done that, she'd probably break something :rotfl:
Lifting a chair or tin of beans.... Strengthening exercises, not really for weight loss.
Bodyweight squats - No good for people with dislocating joints
Planks - I have no idea what that is other than bits of wood, sorry :rotfl:

I am not excusing obesity, just showing an opposing view to yours. It's great that you can exercise so much, I certainly couldn't. I point you to the star jumps. Can you imagine doing this with a knee that dislocates every step you take? How dangerous could that be?
We are doing the correct thing, in taking medical advice with my daughter's condition with the weight loss and exercise, I've already stated what she's allowed to do, exercise bike, nothing else. They don't even want her to swim at the moment, that's how bad her joints are, the exercise bike should arrive by wed-fri. And I hope and prey that it helps build up her quads :(

It's easy to fall into the obesity trap when your ill, especially with depression as a factor, you're then caught in the vicious circle of a battle.

Meds can effect people in different ways. They obviously affect the OP in a way that makes her sleepy. I know mine do, so instead I should go for a run? I am not able to run, some days I'm barely able to walk. What do you suggest I do then? Or the OP for that matter?

SDW - Well done on the 5lb weigh loss :T:T:T

Edit: Just to point out my dd is also recovering from a spiral fracture on the opposite leg from the knee, which was caused just from turning to run away from someone who had just thrown a firework. So excuse me if I'm not willing for her to try star jumps.

How many drugs may cause drowsiness? I take hay fever tabs and they really make me drowsy (affect me more than any other drug for some reason). They make me More drowsy at home when I lounge around doing nothing - never made me fall asleep in a meeting. So you may find that when you are more active mentally and physically at work the effects are less. You may also loose weight once you start work or looking for work as less time in house. Most people eat more when in house than out. Could be a good thing for you in the long run.

To be fair drugs like Tramadol can make you very drowsy. unlike just a bit tired with some over the counter stuff.
However sometimes you just have to fight it.
I take Amitriptyline. Some mornings it takes all my effort to wake up for work and often I'm tired thoughout the day.
Still got to work,do normal day to day stuff plus fit in th gym etc (rehab and for fitness)

While I agree with you custardly, when MH issues take hold, it can be hard to have any fight left. I know my dd is getting depressed by not being able to do what other 21 yr olds do(other issues too). She went out to visit a friend the other day, which was a massive step for her. Even got on a bus  It may not seem a lot, but it's a start. Unfortunately, where someone is in pain a lot of the time depression can set in. God knows I've been there. And the drowsiness I'm talking about, is the fall asleep on edge of a razorblade drowsiness, not just feeling tired, I literally fall asleep drooling wherever I stand. :rotfl: If the OP is like this I can understand her concerns.

This seems to have turned into a weight debate instead of what the OP was asking. I was guilty too of thinking, only you can do something about it, but she'll ask for weight loss advice when she's ready. It's very difficult to get much exercise in when suffering from OA. Especially if the joints are very swollen/sore.

The only thing I can further advise the OP is not to worry about snow that might never fall. You don't know what group you will be placed into until you have the medical, if they say you need one. Until then, try not to worry. Please try to lose some weight, I am on your side, it will be better for your health in the long run, no matter how hard it is. You'll get there in the end
