Sim Only contract for iPhone

Hi,

The contract on my iPhone 4 is coming to an end in the next few weeks. I'm planning to get the next iPhone when it comes out later in the year, although that's probably 3/4 months away.

I'm looking at moving to a cheaper sim only deal however as I believe that I can get a better deal that way than what I'm on now. Even including the price of the unlocked handset when it comes out I think over time it will work out cheaper than upgrading, still paying something for the phone with Vodafone and remaining on my current deal.

Basically I'm looking for some advice on what people think are best for sim only deals.

I've looked on the iPhone deals page on here, and this is suggesting that GiffGaff is the best deal, at £10 a month, however, on Talk Mobile I've seen that they offer this sim only deal: £8pcm, 200mins, 500txts, 500mb. This is better in terms of the mins and texts than I currently get at £25.99pcm. I'm borderline for the data limit though. You can go higher with a slightly more expensive tariff than this. This would make it more than GiffGaff though.

I don't know anyone who's on GiffGaff, so haven't got anyone to ask about its performance.

So after a lot of preamble, I've got to two simple questions.

1) Is GiffGaff definitely the best sim only deal for the iPhone, if not, what would you recommend?

2) If GiffGaff is the best, how do you find performance, network reception etc;?

Many thanks

Giffgaff (O2 singal) is very popular and definitely is the best in terms of the price, but users' experience varies:
    giffgaff mobile network
    Stay Well Clear of GiffGaff
GiffGaff -- too good to be true?
    GiffGaff Load of Rubbish

That said, Talkmobile (Vadafone signal) CS is definitely far from being the best either.

Vodafone can actually give you decent sim only deal once your existing contract ends...but go via their twatter team or online forums. I'm paying £20.50 a month for 1200 mins, unlimited texts, 500mb data, unlimited landline calls & inclusive 0845/0870 calls. For £10.50 a month i believe you can have the same deal but with 600 mins x-network calls instead of 1200.

Giff Gaff deal may work out cheaper but this means diddly squat if you get a weak O2 signal where you live.

I'm on Orange's business SIM-only deal for £7.50+VAT per month - 800MB, 325 minutes, 150 texts, unlimited Orange calls. With iMessage and various apps, 150 texts is more than enough.

Go for Ovivo Mobile. You get 200 minutes, 200 texts and 500mb of internet for free every month (you have to pay £5 once for the SIM card). If you can keep within those limits then you pay ZERO!!.. However, if you exceed the limits then it's 6p for a minute or a text or a MB.

It also runs on Vodafone and is funded by a few ads that appear when you browse the net but generally they are not intrusive. I've now been with them for a month and happy so far.

I don't expect the business model to last but for the short term while it exists then use it.

I also have a PAYG cheapo £1 phone and £1 a month contract with Talk-Mobile which I have transferred my number to to keep it for the long term.

As for nearing your data limit. Connect to Wi-Fi as much as possible and do not download on the network only do that on Wi-fi.

    Giffgaff + iphone here.

Service is same as I used to get on O2 but cheap as chips (I'm on the £10 goody bag. THe unlimited data is fab.

Be wary of a fixed data tariff with an iphone.unless you are a seriously low user. (my mate was duped by O2 when changing from ipone 4 to 4s. THey put her on a lower data package (500 vs 750) "because you never use any where near 500 at the moment "and of course, a few months down the line she's running out of data and tied in )

They aren't as good as they used to be since they stopped offering a free booster, but worth comparing with all the others.
