I haven't bought anything yet for Christmas. I'm usually much more organised. My husband used to laugh at me but even he mentioned recently that it was July and maybe we should make a start! :rotfl:

I have 10 children to buy for and both sets of parents. We don't buy for our siblings or friends.

I am planning on a baking hamper for 1 young nephew (3) who loves to bake with his mum. I'm going to get a mixing bowl and fill it with an apron, plastic "wooden spoon", choc chips/sprinkles, cookie cutters, christmassy cupcake cases etc.
I'm thinking of maybe printing some recipes out for cookies and cupcakes and pre-mixing the dried ingredients into packets or small jars.

For 3 nieces (5, 7, 9) I am planning a fabric craft hamper filled with a white t-shirt, a canvas style bag (thinking of picking up the plain bags in Aldi?), some iron-on patches and diamantes from eBay and some fabric markers/pens. The older girl might like some sort of simple embroidery set included, not sure if the younger two would be able for it.

One niece (6) is into crafty stuff but I got her a tshirt decorating kit for her birthday, so I will have to come up with some other craft hamper for her.

2 nephews (5, 8) I will get Lego because their mother doesn't like craft, baking or anything else messy. Their baby will get clothes I suppose, will need to keep an eye out for good value.

That leaves two 4 year old boys, I will need to think a bit longer on what to get them.

I am open to any suggestions on what to add to the hampers I've mentioned, thanks!

    I thinks Hammer and Tongs

Note to youngster, and those who went to university. A hammer is used to shape iron or metals. You use tongs because it is hot.

Ald* have proper small mixing bowls in the form of a jug. Think school cookery bowls with a handle. £4.99, might do for your nephew.

I've ordered a crafty croc catalogue too. My kiddies loved the suncatchers from wilco and they have a lot more choice. Good stocking fillers. Am also thinking of some fabric pens and tshirts for a friend of mines daughter.

My mum asked today what the kiddies would like for Xmas, as she's seen some stuff in the sales. It's so hard! I had thought balance bikes each, maybe the grandparents can all club together... Last year they had mountains of stuff. Not from me, but (and not saying this for it to be a sob story) their daddy died 5 weeks before Christmas, so everyone I know seemed to take pity on the poor little ones and send a pressie. Not being ungrateful, it was amazing that everyone was thinking of us, but there was just so much stuff! I don't want them thinking that amount is normal, we won't be able to keep that up every year.
I also want Christmas to be about family, and presents are a bonus.

But, I know their grannies and grampsies like to treat them. Which obviously saves me money...

I've written my order for crafty crocs yesterday. I have so much stuff on their that cost pence.

My dad died a couple of months before Christmas when I was 10 bossymoo I remember that year specifically because the amount of presents we got. I cringe now at what I said to mam the words still wringing in my ears "this is the best christmas I have ever had" so it worked, it distracted me from the pain of not having dad on the day but it must have hurt my mam some, although at least she knew we were happy I guess. I don't remember anything else about that day though so I guess I have blocked out the pain of not having dad for christmas dinner etc.

One thing I will say is looking back on my family Christmasses after that is that I just wanted my mam's attention, I just wanted some fun. I lost my mam when I lost my dad really. Kids don't need stuff, they need time with their mum because that's what they remember... or lack of :(

Hope I haven't spoke out of turn bossymoo. My mam is a different breed. She never has had a loving side or affectionate, never liked spending time with us as kids or helping us to learn about the world. If my girls lost their daddy (and believe me, I worry about it every day) I know I would throw my heart and soul into making sure they were ok and bossy, I know you're doing it too.. fellow toughie ;) One strong lady x

I picked one up a few days ago for £2 as it had a small chip on the inside, nothing that I even noticed until I saw the label. I adore it, it's a vintage style with 50's inspired blue. Looks beautiful in my kitch kitchen :D
