The more I read the papers, the more I want to store. If IDS et al
get their way with the Universal benefit system, we will all be up the creek without a paddle. I think that when this despicable piece of legislation comes in there will be riots much much worse than the ones last year.

BB, We'll all be working for a pittance or unable to survive on what is given out in the way of benefits...and it won't just be the poor/low paid that will feel it...
So many on these threads are besides themselves, it's why we are asking for tips to make money and supplies go further and none of us know what life will throw at us from illness, to a loss of a job and anything inbetween...so much is unknown as its not reported in the media or is mis-reported as is much of the things said by the politicians.
I mentioned the bedroom tax to a few people in recent days and they are shocked, disgusted and frightened. They had no idea it is coming.
We don't feel so bad at present because for many it hasn't hit home yet...I wish they'd stop playing one section of society off against another but that's probably the plan to stop everyone working or feeling they are in this together...as they will divide the population...
I'd love to be able to just get on mwith my life and not have to think about all of this. All I want is a simple life...then again don't most of us..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

Well the income in my home dropped by half when Mum passed away and last week I was informed they'd paid an extra week's pension to her so I had to find that excess and pay it back:mad:
Technically they were correct but...at least I am finished with Government departments for now but I am afraifd until I leave this world I will always have to deal with them, I wish I did not have to.
Wish I had a rich relative I don't know of suddenly writing me into their will, that's all it will remain...In reality money does not bother me and I want so little but it does matter when you haven't very much or are or living on the breadline..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. I wondered but the date was two days after Mum passed away. It's done now I suppose...I will if there is anyway of getting that back do so believe me...
After all the future is really difficult having seen some of what is planned in greater detail...no one is safe...

I try to keep a stock of water since the floods greent mentioned; we were lucky in this part of the county that we didn't lose our supply, but nothing would make me use water from a bowser after the film I saw of young lads peeing into one of them
my sis had a very bad experience with our water company, their water was brown but water co insisted it was safe to drink! after threats of legal action and the press, they investigated and found their supply pipe was broken and dangling in the mud. They did - eventually - provide her with bottled water but the fiasco continued for weeks.... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

For anyone that might be interested in adding some rice to their store cupboard, Lidl are doing a 5kg bag of basmati rice for £4.99 from this thursday for a week - I'll be picking one up on Monday as I do a lot of Indian cooking, but this type of rice is very versatile for other dishes as well0

It's funny isn't it what you find or consider adding to a stock cupboard or you start to buy items you haven't thought of doing so...earlier in the year I became a fan of...Marmite so now I have added a couple of jars to the SR...
Today(though I'll use it now)but may buy a couple for the SR I purchased some Chicken Bovril.
And in case sugar is too expensive or is in short supply I found in Tesco's Everyday range some tablet sweetners 1,200 which would be ok for tea/coffee, I think they were approx 74p.
Spent an extra £5 to what I originally planned and have purchased a back pack that is slightly larger...all blue and no logo's on it.
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...BACK+PACKS.htm
Remind me not to put so much in it next time...I can put plenty in it but you forget that you have to carry all that weight.
I tried out a shopping trolley earlier in the day, when full of shopping I think that too could be useful and easier than the back pack, I can use the handle to steady myself but empty I might tip it over...so I would still need my walking stick initially to steady myself. As my budget is tighter I may not fill a trolley that much.
I found a cheap cigarette lighter today which can be refilled with gas for the store room and I purchased some flints(but I cannot see where the flints would go)so perhaps they cannot be replaced:mad: )the gas, lighter and flints only cost me approx £3.50 so I don't think that was too bad...
That's gone into the SR too.
So I now need some wind up lanterns, the kettle, wind up radio and wind up head torch...
The bag will be handy for shopping trips to get items for the SR and I was able though I was really slow to avoid the taxi and so what I saved went towards my shopping.
BTW tinned carrrrots were in short supply and tinned potatoes had sold out again..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson
