Who doesn't have a stock cupboard

I have kept gal containers of bottled water but ended up not drinking it after long contact with plastic. I used it on the garden.
Re the `purity` of tap water, well yes to a point. I have an under sink water filter a special ceramic cartridge and we only filter water through it for drinking or cooking, it comes out through a small extra tap. I change it every six months and you should see the thick goo that covers the whole of it by then. It also filters bacteria etc but anyway that is only good if the water to our taps keeps flowing even if there is a microbe attack on the reservoirs.0 -
Pop putting together a festive hamper for yourself is a great idea - you can keep it all in your stock cupboard and its there for any time, so you have those extra treats in.
Christmas day is just hubby and me now as daughter goes to her husbands mums now since she was widowed and will not go anywhere on her own and son goes to his wife's mums as she is on her own ( she got divorced the minute she knew she was expecting so been on her own a very long time, but totally her choice). The children pop in throughout the day.
Boxing Day we have a friend and her family over, have done since she was widowed 25 years ago, now its with her grandchildren and become a tradition. I just do a buffet so no rushing around on the day and everyone just helps themselves to what they want, as her daughter is vegetarian so no chance of mix ups on gravy etc. being put on the wrong plate - that happened once and the poor girl was rather sick as not used to even meat gravy in her system.
I think I two will start a Christmas box in store room so no big massive shop needed nearer the time. I found the Christmas crackers the other day that I bought for Boxing Day last year and we totally forgot about them so will start the box with them
By doing a Festive Box you are more liable to buy some goodies you would not normally do as they are just 'for you' and its important especially when you are on your own to ensure you treat yourself and if weather became so bad that you couldn't get out - same with everyone - then having treats in are a great morale booster.Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch

Well I have the box of crackers already...no one to pull them with:(
May try and give them away...but will put a little store of Christmas stuff away...I have some champagne Mum and I never got to drink so if it's ok I'll drink it alone;)
May as well use it as I doubt I'll be buying it again for myself..."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

That is a good idea PAH. I usually buy festive treats and then cannot find them so I buy too many. Having a special box will limit me, so that we aren`t eating festive things for months. I`ll do that box too0

my sis has a filter system and it works well, I've been checking them out recently and they're not very expensive so I may consider getting one fitted myself in the future... don't throw the string away. You always need string!

Pop do you not have any friends you could go to? i would hate to be alone on xmas, i can remeber not seeing anyone til after lunch one xmas and i left awful lonely and depressed (i also had no heat or pressies so it was a very depressing morning).
Just for the record i don't do a big xmas shop, to be fair i won't be making xmas dinner anyway, but i stock up on sholer ect before xmas i hate shopping in dec and just go to the filling station/farm shop for milk, bread and fruit i'd rather pay over the odds than battle the crowds, i think supermarkets put there prices up around xmas anyway.
Tesco shop came my stock cupboard is now fit to burst even found a tin of Mr S basic chicken soup when i was trying to fit everything in that was horrible so the dogs are getting it.DEC GC £463.67/£450

I am planning on a store cupboard shop, but hubby hates humping the cans and bottles so am slowly adding bits to a Mr S on-line shop which I will eventually have delivered either this week or next - while I still can get tinned potatoes and carrots.
I have debated whether to get a filter system fitted to taps, can never decide. For past 10 years or more we filter all the water we use for hot drinks and cooking via a jug filter but only drink bottled water as I loathe the taste of our water even after its filtered. If tap water dried up as you say Kittie fitted filter would not work, but of course its easy to keep a jug filter in for emergencies, just cannot make up my mind what to do.Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch
