Where do you guys get your powdered milk from? I'm really struggling to find something other than expensive Marvel. TIA
I get mine in Aldi £1.59 or Asda own brand £1.68 both are 340g so I will pop into Tesco to get some of theirs as it seems to be the cheapest anywhereBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

I must admit my 'stock cupboard' is very minimal. I meal plan each week then do the shopping list based on that, then add any extras we need that week like cleaning bits, drinks, stuff for the 2 year old, etc. However, I shop in a way that will benefit us financially in the sense of buying extra if something we use is on offer, or going for a 3kg bag of pasta rather than a smaller bag as it will last longer and works out cheaper.
I do add the odd tin of tomatoes or baked beans into the trolley every now and then for the store cupboard, or a bag of frozen veg/fruit for the freezer if it's a good deal (but I prefer to use fresh if I can). I've already told my other half though that when we decide to have a baby (it is on the cards for the near future), during my pregnancy I will be bulk-cooking meals for the freezer and building up more of a stock cupboard of tins and pasta/rice etc so it's there and quicker/easier when I'll have less time/can't be bothered to cook from scratch0 -

My powdered milk is Tesco's, Orginally in a cardboard container(round)with red plastic top, still cheaper then marvel but...the new one's I have in the Everyday range are in normal looking boxes/cartons...Butterfly_Brain wrote: »I get mine in Aldi £1.59 or Asda own brand £1.68 both are 340g so I will pop into Tesco to get some of theirs as it seems to be the cheapest anywhere
I haven't compared but this is where the internet is handy."A government afraid of its citizens is a Democracy. Citizens afraid of government is tyranny!" ~Thomas Jefferson

For trying to keep some kind of store, as you say it is possible to have a basic one and probably eggs, bacon, baked beans, tomatoes, salad, milk, some veg, potatoes, powdered milk, flour, tea and coffee are basics. If you have a fridge, I suppose some ready meals have to be considered but that's not bad...And the turn around of food is quite quick I assume.
It probably also depends how close you are to a shopping area or if on site you have a shop there.
But what is interesting is how many people have had a store of goods for years or are starting to. As you say you had one when in your own house.
My fridge is stupid small so nothing fits in there except what is being eaten in the next 2 or 3 days.
I am looking for a cheap fridge freezer on ebay at the moment as I had one before but had to leave it behind on my last site move so have to start again with frozen stuff, having a freezer did make a massive difference though as I was able to stock up on things like mince and sausages etc which can always be turned into a cheap quick meal.
I don't do ready meals as I really can't stand most of them, find them expensive and the lack of microwave means I have to use more gas to cook them.
I have never moved onto a site with a shop ( although they are around) as they tend to be higher in price and more towards holiday makers rather then people like me.
Most of the site locations are also in the middle of nowhere so shopping can be an issue but I have learnt along the years to be frugal and to use what I can find for free locally as well and I am always keen on game etc that can usually be found in such areas.
I think that as I have no children it is not such an issue if I go without for a couple of days but if I did have kids things would have to be different and I would want a proper store cupboard that could provide food for a month or so.
One thing I keep in is powdered cheese sauce and peppercorn sauce as although I would rather make my own from scratch if I am short on cheese or cream etc using the powdered stuff is cheaper and does at least provide a base for mac and cheese or cauliflower cheese ..and the peppercorn sauce is good for a quick meat pie mix
I make as much of my own pasta, bread etc as I can and find that it cuts down on waste as I feel I can only make what I need and then make sure it is eaten.There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;
So they break the hearts of kith and kin, and roam the world at will.

Have you thought about looking on freecycle or freegle (whichever it is in your area) or the local Facebook page for a fridge freezer?
