I recently applied for 4 Ehic cards, via the Nhs.org website, said that they are free, but charged me £8.95 processing fee, had an email to say that the money had been paid to a Mark Sloane at Moneybookers.com....How do i go about getting a refund?
the cards have not arrived yet

What made you choose that site ?

Its an nhs product so you use the nhs.uk site

If only we were all born with that knowledge etched into our brains.

I was perfectly happy with the E111 before.

I had a accident in Belgium some years ago.
The hospital staff (looked Morrocan to me) didn't know what the E111 was, and insisted I pay any way. Not a lot. In fact, so insignificant that I barely got a pay out from the Travel insurance because of the excess. So I ended up paying for most of the treatment, despite:

    1. HAVING the E111
    2. HAVING Travel Insurance

The amusing thing is, an Italian visitor had an eye infection in London, so I took him to Moorfield Eye Hospital, and I made sure we had his EHIC (issued from Italy) with us. The hospital orderly (looked African this time) didn't know what an EHIC was! I had to find somebody senior who confirmed we didn't have to pay.

At least we have a consistent health service across Europe.

I just got caught out too, I paid £14.99 then kept thinking how come we have to pay for these cards now, they used to be free. When I realised I'd been had, I tried to find out how to contact the company but there was no way apart from an address in Belgium. I am going to try and get it back through my bank but I paid by debit card so I'm not sure I will be able to. Does anyone know, do we actually get the card in the end or do they take the money for nothing? I think more should be done to warn people about these sites, I am going to contact the OFT, and also NHS to let them know these sites are still operating and catching lots of us out..

But hospital treatment in Belgium isn't free - the locals pay (part of) the cost anyway.

The EHIC is for treatment on the same terms as the locals - not necessarily free.

I paid £14.99 and received an email from
    [email protected].
If this is not a NHS site, how can they use the nhs.uk
address. I have applied for a refund under the 7 days
    terms and conditions, see below
Distance Selling Regulations: It is inherent in our service to complete your application as soon as possible after your order is placed, which may be immediately. Therefore your acceptance of these Terms & Conditions is deemed to be your consent for us to begin to process your order prior to the end of your normal right of cancellation period (7 days). Once we begin to process your order you will no longer have any right to cancel as would otherwise be provided by the Distance Selling

    Lets hope I'm lucky

Just been had by EHIC Ltd with a belgian postal address, lost of disclaimers that there is no money back, an email with a contact us link that does not contact them. I am furious with myself for falling for this scam, even more furious with them for painting what is a scam so well.

I paid on credit card so there will be a definite dispute on that payment.
This should be publisied more now to find out their registrar details.

    Not happy

I got caught too, by nhs-e111-ehic.org.uk, and they sent me an email. I also found a number on their site and once I'd complained about being misled by the 'nhs' in their address and they guy on the phone saying no it isn't free anymore when I asked, they said they would refund. I have had an email confirming they will refund, but no money or cards as yet. Fingers crossed. Maddening to be caught tho as I'm always to careful. it was the use of "nhs" that got me.

    Hey jbarnsley-uk,

i've just been conned by that site too! It's registered here:
    Registrant's address:
    F 1/18, ground floor
    DLF phase 1
    gurgaon
    Haryana
    122001
    India
I've written to my credit card company and it being such a deceitful site in India, I'm more worried about what other abuse will be inflicted on my card so I think it should be cancelled.
This site came top on my google search when i looked for EHIC renewal, and it does look like a uk nhs site.

    hi everyone!

i applied for ehic through secure-online-application.com/ehic last monday.
today i received the cards for me and my husband, but not those for my 2 children.
when i applied i got 4 confirmation emails so does that mean that they charged me the service fee of £17.99 for each card?
and would it be possible to get the money back through the bank if i payed via credit card?

there is a uk number on their website: 02031377091 i decided to call them but i dont know how to argue with them to get a refund...i wanted to check their terms and conditions first but the links for t&c, contact us and abouts us do not even work !!

i hope i could get help from you !!!
    thank you in advance!!

With some exceptions which don't apply other than in special cases, anyone can send any mail with any domain as the From:. Obviously a reply might not go to the right place, but judicious use of Reply-To: headers will confuse a lot of people, especially those that use [STRIKE]completely broken[/STRIKE] Microsoft mail clients which only show the "human readable" part of the address and suppress the actual email address.

It's possible that in some scenarios the owners of the address can take precautions to make it slightly harder for the address to be used by a forger (google for "DKIM") but sadly very few domain owners do, and very few mail providers check them properly.

So that a piece of email purports to come From: [email protected] means absolutely nothing without other supporting evidence.
