DD born NYears day. Good because most people off that day, although can be a bit flat after NYeve. She is 19 now and at Uni (at least I know I will always see her on her birthday).

When she was at school, hard arranging parties - lots of people forgot with strange days over X mas. Like most kids who have bdays outside school term, so made sure parties were when back at school in Jnaury.

Never joint presents. People are broke but also large element of recycling is evident which is OK if it is what you want.

You will never be organised enough!!! There just are not enough jhiding places in the house to store things.
  • My DS is 2 and was born on NYE 2004. We've already had joint presents, "Silly people with December birthdays" comment and his godparents didn't bother sending anything at all.

I can really see it being a problem when he's at school with people forgetting etc so may consider a 'half birthday' in the summer.

My schoolfriends bday was xmas day. She had her party the saturday before, and the parents were glad of it as they could go xmas shopping without us around! My cousin is 9, her bday is 22 dec. Some people buy her joint xmas.bday presents, which never seems fair, but she doesnt know any different so... My bday is august, which works out well gift wise, as theres only a few months between xmas/bday- getting presents etc. Although back to school being Sept, I'd spend money on school uniform stationary etc out of my bday money, so not completely great, plus, in terms of bday parties, it would be whoever hadnt gone on summer hols would come, but then being summer, it was garden parties so less mess for mums/dads... swings and roundabouts.

just because you are trying to conceive, doesnt mean you will at that time though, is it worth the dissapointment of aiming for a certain month? as someone who recently got pregnant by accident, and had to have a medical termination 5 months because he was dying, I just hope your baby is born healthy.

    good luck

My birthday's the 13th and I never had any problems with non attendance at parties or getting only one present - in fact I always thought it was useful having birthday and xmas close cos if I wanted something big as a present I was more likely to get it - as a joint one.
My mate was born on the 31st Dec - now there's a date to avoid - noone went to his birthday parties as a child cos parents were busy and this got worse as he got older when all his friends went to big Hogmanay parties. So now he has his party/ get together in January, but I am sure it is not quite the same.

    It's only a game

  • it will be my dd 1st birthday on 29 th december, she was due boxing day, i can't see it been a problem,

you say that, but you havent even been through this yet!....
wait til you cant get her school friends round for a party because of the time of year, wait til she wants to go out and none of her friends have the money thanks to christmas, or they are staying in until new years eve.
wait until soemone gives her ONE present thats for christmas AND birthday thats wrapped in christmas paper,

    trust us, it sucks!

Im glad parents of christmas/new year babies are trying to make an effort, my parents didnt and my birthday has always been rubbish, its such a non event that i can find it quite depressing.

Sorry to hear about your experience but I dont think anyone is aiming for a particular month, just avoiding those 2,
I would have stopped trying to concieve for the next few weeks to avoid having a another birthday on top of OH's and Mine at an already difficult time of year,
obviously we would all rather have a healthy baby.

Probably already mentioned but I havent read the whole thread, sorry - a child in DS class has her birthday between Christmas and New year, I think its the 27th - they always have her party in February - must be strange getting bday cards 2 months late, but it spreads the expense for her parents (and those buying presents)

My DD has her birthday the 4th Jan and we usually have a party a couple of weeks later but we have and arrangement with family that they buy a small something for her birthday and then something else in July (ish) to give her something to look forward to

Oh and we ALWAYS make sure the Crimbo deccies are down at least one day before her big day
    I haven't got one!

Its my younger sisters BD on christmas day and i knw she hated it. Even now in her twenties she has some issues with it.

Christams day is stressful and expensive enough and trying to fit a BD in as well is a nightmare, she never had birthday parties, and would often recieve joint BD and christmas cards and pressies wrapped in christmas paper.

This year she spent christmas with us. We split the day in half with the morning and early afternoon being dedicated to christams and then in theearly evening we celebrated her birthday, cake, pressies and everything birthday themed.

I also have a nephew and niece who also have their birthday around christmas (one before, one after).

Personally although being a christmas baby is a special thing the down sides can often outweigh the ups.

My DS is on the 15th Dec and is now 8. We always have a party and it is always well attended, I usually send the invites out about 6 weeks in advance. All family and friends attend as well as his school friends and we all have a ball as it's lovely to see everyone so near to Christmas. The going home present is easy and very good value - small selection boxes which end up at about 75p each.

Until a couple of years ago we didn't put the Christmas decorations up until after his birthday but he loves Christmas so much that he wants them up at the beginning of December, we don't put the cards up until his birthday cards are down.

Presents are always separate but he does seem to get 1 present and 1 gift of money from most family and friends and we "suggest" who gives what when! When he was younger we would use some of the money to buy him outdoor toys in the summer.

I asked him whether it bothers him and he replied that he loves it being so close to Christmas.
