Help!what to do?hubby just crashed car!

As above!had a phone call he was on his way to work and a horse came out of no where!he said the car door is dented which we don't care about really and the windscreen is cracked so will need replacing.

Do I ring our breakdown cover or somewhere like auto glass ?

Never done this before what's the likely good they will come and do it today??
The horse is still running round like a loon on the dual carriageway!!

If the horse is still loose on the road the first thing I would do is call the police , then if your hubby is ok the breakdown people to recover the car,and get the details of the people who own the horse and claim from them for any damage caused by their horse being loose on the road.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was going to blame you

  • If theres a horse on the dual carriageway i'd phone the police followed by the insurance company.
  • Police have been rang so that's all ok. The car is drivable he got to work ok,so have to sort out the wind screen.how do I find out who the owner is?and would they actually pay anything?i mean my hubby did just almost kill their horse and if it's running around crazy it will prob have to be put down?
Will I need an accident number?i asked the police woman on the phone she said they will ring back later when my hubby gets back. So will I have to wait to ring the insurance?thanks

Just ring the insurance company and let them deal with it, that is what you pay them for.

The horse owners would only be liable if you could show they were negligent e.g. they left a gate open etc.....if someone else let the horse out - not their fault.

Its unlikely to need to be put down for running free! Its not 'that' uncommon and certainly not unnatural! Even if its not legal, horses do get out sometimes. It might be injured though.

Just try and figure out if the damage is going to be more than your excess. If it isn't then it's not worth calling the insurance company as it will be on your record and could affect your no claims.
  • Gin gin is right. Replacing the windscreen is usually a £50 excess. Fixing the door will be much more and impact on your premiums.

Only if they are fully comp (TPF&T doesn't usually include windscreen cover ;)).

Some of the low cost insurers (swiftcover etc) do actually class it as a claim and others do ask about it on their quote site (admiral group etc).
