RANT - Selling things to 'friends'

So i sold my old phil and teds to a woman i knew for £25, its a double and she had approached me asking could she buy it, it had been sitting in my dining room for months and i had told her this, and she was insisted on buying it

We delievered it to her bank holiday monday and when we assembled it, the tyres were flat... how flat we werent sure. We told her this, yet she still took it. After an rudish text message 20 mins later - about you guessed it flat tyres! - my OH borrowed a pump went back up and pumped them up

I also said if she didnt want it by the following day i would refund her and stick in on ebay

Then nothing said - shes on my FB so could contact me anytime...

Today she wants the £25 back - she doesnt like the way the front wheel moves on the P&T's and wants me to pick it up and get the buggy :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

i would like to point out the front wheel is the design of the buggy not a fault - i know i managed it with two toddlers and cerebal palsy!

it just grates me that i did her a favour, at a price she could afford - which i spent the money on a stoller for my youngest as the P&T was to big for one IMO

I'm not giving the cash back, i'm just !!!!ed off

  • in my flabbergasted state, i forgot to add i'd tell her to return it herself if she wants her money back and that it better be in the condition you sold it her in!

Never mix business and pleasure. :(

She has no real recourse and you can keep the money. However, you will probably lose a friend. Although, judging by the upset over a mere 25 quid, this doesn't seem to have been a strong friendship in the first place. Running backwards and forwards in a car costs a few pounds too, so you are all out of pocket regardless. :(

You can get much more for it from someone else so take it back, and sell it for what it is really worth, at least £100. And in future, don't do anything for her.

  • I already had a reply on Facebook - was I'm disgusting and of course I can afford £25 and I'm ripping off a woman on benefits!!! I offered to advertise on fb or netmums to sell for her - I can't take the agony of reselling! But she's not interested. Just can't see why I won't give her the money!

The wheels would sell for £25 alone!

Anyway I've blocked her on FB now, she's not a friend of mine anyway a woman I knew who I did a favour selling it so low

If she was a friend I'd probably take it back to remain friends - but in this case she can figure it out herself

I wonder if when she approached you, she was hoping to get it for free, and was miffed that it wasn't a freebie, hence her kicking off.

No she said buy, I told her that it had been sitting a while and needed a clean, took pictures sent them to her, asked her to look over the buggy when she bought it (price agreed the night before) she barely looked at the thing.

When oh went back to pump wheels I told her she had until the next day to decide if she liked it that was 15 days ago!

    Then she messaged me today...

Of course I wish I had put it on freecycle

Yes, I am wondering if it was presented as an offer to buy, but she was hoping it would be given for free, e.g.

"That buggy, that's been sitting there unused, may I buy it?"
"Oh, that thing, we don't use it any more. Please take it if you want it"

I.e. she's a chancer, but not very good at it!

I love how she uses the i'm on benefits thing as a justification, no wonder people on benefits get slated...
    Everyones skint, not just her...
Sounds like you have your hands full too..

Ignore her, she got such a bargain, if she had any brains she'd Ebay it herself and leave you alone..
Some people get the world and still aren't happy...
I always take the moral high ground, it's lovely up here...

I still don;t get why you won;t take it back and make yourself more money. Surely that's a no-brainer? Aren;t you cutting off your nose to spite your own face just because you don;t want to do what she wants?
