How often do you back up?

I use time machine and a raid1 NAS drive but also use dropbox.
As others have said having data on external drives as all well and good but if you get broken into its gonna go! My NAS keeps data safe but really that needs to either be hidden or put in cage bolted to the floor.
The key is to have backups in more than one place. I had a livedrive account, one of the early adopters when they first started and they changed servers a year or so later and managed to mangle some of my files. Luckily I also had a DVD backup but that demonstrates that even the 'cloud' isn't foolproof.
Spread your data! The experts say you should have your backups in 3 distinct places.

I have used all manner of backup online, Livedrive, Backblaze, Carbonite, always looking for one that offers lots of groovy features as well as just backing stuff up. Currently I am using Pogoplug because I have lots of videos and it has a good iPhone app, gives a very good video watching experience through their web.0

so, you're not really looking for backup. You're looking for groovy features (whatever they are). How much time/effort is it to move from one service to another? how much 'stuff' are you actually protecting? or is it predominantly a video sharing portal you're after which will allow you to watch full movies or something?0 -

Flickr has recently changed its offering, removing the "Pro" unlimited storage option (unless you already use it) and offering everyone 1Tb (1,000 Gb) of free space. I'm looking to use this as a free backup for my 64Gb of photos.
I don't want all my photos visible publicly. Does anyone have any experience of how they manage privacy and sharing? It seems like a no-brainer if you can automate the upload of folders into albums (or sets, as they seem to call them)...Jumbo

I do a full (automatic) backup of my system (C) partition every week.
I use Acronis True Image to make the backup too.0 -
I backup documents using google docs and all my settings using a external USB drive with a drive image. Google drive and dropbox are instant backup and sync while external drive is slow and only run every 2 weeks or when i know i am doing major updates.
I usually do a first backup of new device and try to retrieve it once before starting up just to check if it has any negative effects on new device. I found this approach handy as i can test most stuff within the warranty or sometime even within first 7 days of device being used.0 -

If the last week has taught us anything it's there's no such thing as free. Flickr or more commonly known as Yahoo has its interests served in selling you stuff. irrespective of whatever access the US government has to YOUR data, images, docs, etc the imaginary free cost for your storage will no doubt be your privacy, either governmentally or commercially.
Pick a UK company that needs to comply with UK and EU legislation and who has datacentres in the UK. Spend a few quid and get more storage than you need but at least you know you'll not be bombarded with adverts and having your data scanned at every possible opportunity.0 -

I'm not quite sure how saving your photos on flickr is a security risk, and any email like that which I haven't requested goes straight into the "Ignored" folder anyway. It would cost me a fortune to store my 60Gb+ of photos on a pay site :undecidedJumbo

I aim to back everything up at least to two places - tried convincing my parents to do the same - they've just lost their second hard drive along with all their data0
