The only thing that put me off DropBox was the small amount of storage you have. Though using multiple account may solve this. I will have to give it a go! Thanks for that!0 -
I've been using Carbonite for a while now - at around £40 a year for unlimited storage it's a bargain. It does it automatically and continuously in the background, so you don't have to do anything. It's also had glowing reviews from the people who do the "Security Now" podcasts. I can even access my backups from my phone via an app if I need a file. It's saved me a couple of times: when I've deleted or updated a file in error, it stores backup versions, and I've once I've managed to recover all of a sizeable amount of data when a disk started misbehaving.
Services like GoogleDrive, SkyDrive and DropBox are all secure, but they always have access to your data if necessary. It means they can give up your data if required by a court order, but it also means you can reset your password if you forget it. They also have easy access via browser or phone app, so you can email links to files very easily.Jumbo

i dont back-up at all. what i do is use acronis. every month or so i just do a restore with acronis. then i update anything that needs updating. this gves me a nice clean updated machine.
i'm not advertising acronis. i actually got it for nothing on another site one day a couple of years ago. i wouldn't have bought it as i think you can get enough free software to get by okay. but it does mean i never bother backing-up anymore.0 -
I've got Acronis 2009 backup and recently did a backup whilst doing this the computer rebooted with the bluescreen and wouldn't reboot.
The backup file was corrupted also even though it was in another drive.
And the funny thing was I wasn't having any obvious problems.0 -
Only after i have just learned the hard way the disadvantage of not doing it0

I never did it.0

i've changed from doing weekly backups to doing it fortnightly if i remember or at least 1 month. doesnt take up much storage space.0
-
I don't tend to do this as it is usually possible to recover files from a hard drive in the event of a serious error, although it is probably much more hassle than simply having a back up.0

I have never backed up for the entire data, just somethings back up the things i think are important.0
