How often do you back up?

The regularity of backup for me simply depends on how much important stuff I create in a given time. It may be a month, or may stem to 5 or 6 if I've not really used the PC for anything more than browsing etc.
I have a 3 partition hard drive.
Partition 1 = XP
Partition 2 = Files/Data
Partition 3 = Backup space for most important files
Thus if I need to re-install XP, I can do that onto Partition 1 without losing the other partitions and files.
I also have a 250GB external hard-drive which I back up to whenever I've got anything very important to take a copy of.0 -
I personally never saw the point in parititions, no different really than just having folders. If your hard drive fails then you lose everything and it doesn't matter if you have it partitioned. I say always backup to media off your computer, anything on the same hard disc and eggs and basket come to mind. I back up my important files frequently to cd and/or dvd and all of my documents and email infrequently to dvd but frequently to a separate hard disc. I don't have any backup on the same hard disc as it defeats the point. I've had a hard disc fail and it would have made no difference how it was organised, it was unusable, luckily because of my backup method (sans partitions) I reinstalled everything to a new hard disc and only lost a day or twos emails in the end. I've personally never had a situation where partitions would have been useful."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

Oh, I agree. In the instance where your hard drive simply fails or dies, you're pretty stuffed whether you've got partitions or not. To cover hard drive failure, that's the importance of external hard drives or backing up to CD/DVDs etc.
But there are some reasons why it might be useful though working on all other outcomes other than disk failure: http://www.theeldergeek.com/hard_drives_02.htm0 -

Hello everyone,
I would sure love to know what people (especially businesses) who rely on their computers think or feel about backups? The reason I'm asking this question is through various communications & contacts i've had with various business, i always find a) they ignore the importance of backups, b) if they do perform them, they store it within the same building / facility.
I've recently taken on an agency for performing online backups, and feel we can always target the service to the satisfaction of the customer - making it something they will "want" to use. Our service although automatically performs continuous backups in the background using your internet connection, I'd love to know what people feel about such a service?
You can read more about the service either my googling it, the name is DataVault UK or send me a message
Hope to hear your views soon.

Too expensive for most peoples needs.
BT Vault and AOL X Drive may be worth considering which are both available for free or a lower cost, ... for a money saving site probably better value.0
