I would imagine that he/she does - I back up all my files to an external hard disk using the supplied software (Retrospect), so that hopefully should my PC ever die, I can simply replace the hard disk/entire PC, transfer all the files onto the new disk/PC and pick up where I left off.0 -
I run 3 PC's in my house and they are all connected to a central server. All files are saved to the server and then backed up to an external Western Digital powerbook.
In addition to this i use an online backup utility called Carbonite which for $5 a month let's you back up your important files to a secure web based store.

CrustyMcMuffin wrote:I backup weekly to a secure website of my own, I know not everyone has a website so you might want to consider opening a gmail account and using that as an online backup area. You get 2gb of space which is usually large enough to hold the vital files you don't want to lose. Plus there's the added bonus of it being online as most folk who backup tend to keep their DVDs etc in the house and if there's a fire it will all disappear.
I have plenty 15 invites for gmail left, so if anyone is interested drop me a PM with your email address and I'll send an invite.
I use a free download called roandrive (http://www.roamdrive.com/download.html)
to up load to Gmail. great little program works with hotmail and msm too.Don't take life too seriously, no one gets out alive0 -

And when Crusty's invites are finished I have 100 to spare.0 -
Backup my documents onto a CD or Zip disc once a week but don't backup the full PC - it takes too long and if something were to happen, I have all the program discs etc, to re-load0

Having lost a lot of personal data in the past due to a failed drive... I now back up my data files to a 1Gb USB drive, which I bought for just £14 from Amazon.
I use Cobian Backup software http://www.cobian.se/ for the following reasons;
It's freeware
It backs up data using compression
It encrypts the back-up using 256-bit Rijndael encryption (important if using USB drives which can get lost!!)
Although its only in beta development, I have used it (and restored data with excellent results.0
