I have just tried my old camcorder on the laptop with windows 7.

The computer is unable to find them and it cannot read the old disc.

It cannot find the camcorder when connected to the computer.

    :o:p It's a sony DDR-HC19E

I have been able to install the software for editing by going to windows following their link to sony and installing PMB using my disc codes. Then when I click on the link to import it cannot find the camera.

The computer cannot see the devise and cannot find the drivers. If you go into devise manager it can see the connection but not what it is.

Have you tried to install the USB Driver?

Either way, still need the make and model as above.

The preferred method of connection is via FireWire. Let's hear more about your computer.

The camrea is MiniDV which means a driverless connection via firewire. If your laptop doesn't have firewire, a USB connection will be lower quality and rely on drivers you can't get any more it seems!

Only cheap solution I can think of is one of those £10 USB capture dongles, plug the camera in via component leads and accept the quality will be OK but never what it could have been over firewire. You'll also have to handle the deck manually (play, pause, rewind on the camera, not in the software)

If it's a firewire issue, google "Win7 firewire problems" and you'll see others with issues, some being solved by using the 'legacy firewire driver'

Assuming you're struggling with Firewire, that is.
