Having to retune every day

Followed the instructions to retune my TV.

Went to menu, clicked 'settings', then first time installation, asked if I wanted to do 'automatic search', clicked 'yes' and got all the channels.

However, every day I switch on I cannot get BBC 1 or BBC 2 unless I do this procedure each time.

Am I doing something wrong?

I don't get any other option than the automatic search.

I'm in Kent, if that helps.

Would appreciate any help (simple instructions please, I'm hopeless at all this!:))

Don't switch the TV off. Leave it in standby.
If that doesn't help, get the shop to repair or replace it.

BTW it's a good idea to state the make and model number in case anyone knows of a fault that's specific to your TV.

If you can find such an option in the menu, try restoring to factory settings (or similar) and then run 1st time installation.
For more specific advice, please give the Make/Model of your TV.

Thank you all for your comments - sorry not to reply sooner.

The TV is a Goodmans with a Matsui DTR3 digital terrestrial receiver - all rather old, I know!

Have considered leaving on stand by - but not very money saving!

Have also been frantically 'googling' and have followed all the instructions to the letter.

OH is using this as a very good excuse for getting a new (huge!) flat screen TV with freeview built in! (Have suspicions this may have something to do with the footie!)

I am content to retune it everytime. Just wondered if anyone else had the same problem and it was just our area or perhaps it will all correct itself when we have to retune again in late June.

Will try to hang in there if no one can help.

DSO2 for the Meridian region is not until 27 June 2012 - on which date you'll probably have to do a final retune anyway so I'd wait until then to see if the situation improves.

I once had an analogue VCR (Ferguson, I think it was) which, annoyingly, used to need a retune whenever there was a power cut so it may be the Matsui has a similar 'feature'.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Hi, slightly confused, are you having to retune the Goodmans tv or the Matsui receiver ?

Are you talking about the analogue channels or the digital channels?

Digital channels and transmitted in a 'multiplex' of several channels together so if you were losing BBC1 and BBC2 you should also be missing several other channels as well!

If it is just the analogue BBC1 and BBC2, then assuming you are following the retuning instructions to the letter , you have probably got a faulty TV.

Have just checked and when I switch on each time I am missing all of the BBC multiplex. After doing the manual search using the 'channel' numbers (frequencies) from digitaluk I get all the channels back. My problem is that each time I switch on I have to repeat the whole performance as the BBC multiplex are missing.

Thank you everyone for trying to help.

I am going to wait until the next retune on 27 June and then if all fails a new TV it will be - my OH will be delighted, as will my children (grown up and view us as dinosaurs as regards our technology!)

PS if nothing else I have learnt a lot about channels and frequencies!

My brother had something similar to this, kept retuning but it never "held". So we took the instruction manual back to Richer Sounds and it turned out the cache was full so remedied that and it has been fine.

Hi again, it could be that your signal on the BBC multiplex is 'borderline' and the aerial may need attention, if you buy a new digital tv you MAY encounter the same problem which would then point towards an aerial issue.

If your main switchover date is 27 June then I assume you may still be able to receive BBC1 or ITV analogue services. If you can and your TV has Teletext (if it still broadcasting? I can't check as we are all digital now) try tuning to Teletex page 284 and see if you are receiving a checkerboard perfectly.

If yes then your aerial should be OK to receive the new digital Public Service Broadcasters

This is a bit of a rough and ready test but may help for further info see http://www.digitaluk.co.uk/find_help/troubleshooting
