Ooh right... but do you think from what I said, he had an HHC etc (and I think it was G4S on his card) that he probably was legit? He seemed to read on his HHC where my meter was and he went straight there, read it and left? I'll look tomorrow on my EDF aco!!!!
He may well have been legit but breaking a few rules.
The HHC does have a slot for meter location and he would check the details of the meter from that as well but not enter the reading until later.
You should still check and report the fact he was there early.

I've had a meter reader for the gas as early as 8am which i thought was early 'cos i thought many people would still be in bed, but they've called as late as 7pm (that was in the Summer) and i didn't expect them that late.

I don't know if I want to report him, I don't want to get him in trouble, if he was genuine, he was really friendly. I was just worried what if he wasn't genuine... nothing on my account... yet but that's ok right?

We had a meter reader from EDF called yesterday, but as no-one was home he just left a card saying he would call back today, or we could fill in the card and leave it out for him.

Anyway OH was home this morning and he did come back to read the meters himself.

So perhaps it just EDF meter reading time;)

Next will come the punch up over the amount they increase the direct debit by:mad:
Stopped smoking 27/12/2007, but could start again at any time

  • Aside from being a bit early, the chap hasn't done anything wrong. If in doubt check the ID properly and phone the number on it!

Most (read all) meter readers save readings for later in the day for one reason or another - I know I use to :D

At least they are reading your meter, after all you did say you always miss them.
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

Yeah, I don't mind that he came early, I really just wanted to check that you all thought he sounded like a legit caller

The reading may not appear as quick as you think because it has to pass through at least 2 levels of validation, first the Data Collector who sends it via data flow to your supplier, then your supplier has to validate it. This means it could reject due to problems and spend weeks reaching your account...if ever.

Your supplier knows when their agents are due out as they have a contract with them which works on reading cycles. They can check it was due. They can also check your reading by seeing if its stuck somewhere in validation processes, which will be now rather than potentially weeks ahead.

Honestly, its a small thing but what about the fact he may advance his plans to something worse in search of his bonus? I once had a guy who was making all the readings to get his bonus. He slipped up because several of the meters in the village in question were changed and customers were in contact with the supplier over where their readings were going since they couldn't be used on the bill. After further investigation and the agent monitoring him via his GPS, it turned out he was very close to a pub!

To be quite honest this sounds like a mountain being made over a molehill.

Meter reader showed a badge, came in to read the meter, was polite about it and left.

He started half an hour earlier than he should ahve done, possibly. Hardly the biggest crime in the world I'd say. He was just being keen!
