Or you could conserve some of that bandwidth and not waste your time on petitions. If they didn't listen to 1.7 million signings for the road pricing one , I can't see them listening to one on dodgy advertising. Its something for the OFCOM or ASA to look into , not a quick fix mirage of democracy that that petitions site offers.

sorry if I sound bit jaded , my own forums seem to be awash with petitions for just about everything you can think of , I'm running out of outrage for all those causes.

Or perhaps they took more notice of the other 58.3million who weren't bothered. That's the problem with petitions: they're unrepresentative and paradoxically not very democratic. However, what that particular petition achieved was a wider public debate that otherwise may not have taken place.

My undertsanding of 'fair use' is that the odd excessive month would be overlooked but regular heavy bandwidth use would not be tolerated. Am I under a misapprehension? It seems reasonable to me.
Apparently I'm 10 years old on MSE. Happy birthday to me...etc

    Good find.....
You can always get more with a kind word and a 2-by-4 than with just a kind word.

ive had an ongoin debate with homecall who say i still owe them 136 quid from 6 months ago,
i signed up to there `unlimited` broadband and i was getting disconections on a nightime, so i kept phoning them and they said that i am on a `fair usage policy`
which meant i was on a limited connection.

so i was saying `im not on unlimited BB if you can cut me off?`
they would say `you are on unlimited BB, but you are downloading X amount of stuff during the day and so we put you on the fair usage policy`
    `so how can i be on unlimited?`

this went on for weeks and so i said im not paying for summing i cant use, and so they cut me off lol

now i have NTL 4mb cable broadband and that IS unlimited like it says on the tin, even today (4months later) homecall sent me a letter saying they would cut me off if i dont pay em lmao.

    moral of the story?

dont go with adsl broadband cos they can limit your supply,
    cable all the way.

errrrrrrrmmmmm oh yes they can - its called traffic shaping NTL/Virgin will not admit it but traffic shaping happens between approx 3pm and 11.30pm. I'm on the 10mb ntl cable broadband and (not that I have EVER had 10mb) my internet connection slows down to approx 1.5-2mb - its a pain and certainly not the service I am paying for.

It's about time something was done about the false advertising of Broadband.

If these broadband companies sold you tv, would you only be able to watch it for 6 hours a day as any more would be 'abuse'

Well the onus is on the customer just as much as the provider. If something says unlimited then make sure you read all the small print before going into a contractual agreement with an ISP.

If you're not happy with the way they advertise their service, be it unlimited or not, then don't use them for your services. Simple as! Vote with your custom :)
