As far as I am aware lots of funeral directors don't charge for a funeral of a baby. may be worth asking the bereavement Midwife at the hospital as she may or can get that information to you.

In the area I live in the nearest Jewish cemetery is the far side of the city. Walking was completely impractical and Tbh an Orthodox funeral is a bit different to most Christian funerals anyway. My CoE husband was completely shocked by my Dad's Jewish funeral as it was so different.

Another suggestion for the Co op. I was helping a friend with their partner's funeral recently and we visited a different company and in all honesty I wasn't impressed with them so suggested we went and had a chat at the co op to as I'd audited the branch in the past. The lady there was marvellous was warm and sincere without going OTT and the cost was significantly lower than the other place.

I hope no one gets offended by this.

Is the car for family? In our culture we walk behind the hearse unless you're very elderly/sick or the route is long or dangerous. The walking actually helps a bit in a way, the first time I went in a funeral car I felt like i was missing out on sharing my grandads last journey with him.

Have you had a look at the route from the house to the service then service to the resting place? Is walking a viable option?

Obviously if you need a hearse for the children this is entirely different though I would imagine that would be part of a basic funeral.

With regard to flowers, local florists will sometimes do a payment plan in the circumstances. Do you have a proper independent local florist you can talk to?

You don't need all of the bells and whistles to have a funeral and don't feel like you're doing the children a disservice by not having these optional extras. The important bit is gathering the family and supporting their grieving parents through this.

firstly im so sorry for your loss
we lost our little girl at 28 weeks gestation last year. After much debate we opted to bury her ourselves as the hospital use a shared grave and we liked the thought of her being with us when the time comes

the funeral cost us about £500 although since then i have heard that a lot of undertakers will complete babies funerals at no cost so def worth having someone call round a few to see what is available

hope the next wee while is gentle on you xx

That's news to me. I've always gone in a funeral car and only seen people walking on TV.

OP don't stress about things like this. No-one is going to be bothered, I know that you want to do things properly but whatever you do is correct.

    Take time and take care.

When we lived in Spain we went to two funerals, the whole village turned out and walked behind the funeral car, it was, as someone else has said, very intimate and moving.

OP. so sorry for your tragic loss, I too have heard that SANDS are very good. Thinking of you. xx
