The abject paranoia on this thread is as startling as it is hilarious. The greater danger, for most of us, lies not in setting our aim too high and falling short; but in setting our aim too low and achieving our mark0

Not really desperate, just catching up with the times.
The law is that you need a licence if you watch live TV on any device. As you can do that on many mobile phones and games consoles, it makes sense to mention them in the same breath as other devices you can watch TV on.0 -

No it's desperate because they put it across as you need a BBC TV Licence for those devices which isn't true. As you say you are only supposed to need one if you watch live feeds. Also battery powered devices are exempt from what I've heard like TV;s in caravans so therefore I'd have thought mobiles were too?0 -
I can't believe there's 14 pages of this dross. Oh well it keeps the trolls busy and out of the other threads.
I can't believe the thread was not locked or deleted ten pages ago, the accusations flying around are unbelievable, still it is good for a laugh at how ridiculous some people can be.0 -

To be fair, as you then go onto say, they do say on the website that you only need one if you watch or record live TV. So they aren't giving you that impression at all IMO.
Afaik, battery powered devices are only exempt if you have a licence anyway. If you don't, then you will need one.0 -

The letters put it across as recieving equipment and thus you need to buy one from them0 -
Also what I've said before about the BBC trying to trick people into contacting them is here. At first glance it looks like they are taking you to court.
Obviously this isn't the case but once they get communication started the database gets updated and the harassment goes into overdrive0
