Dog mess everywhere

Options
Christ almighty ive not been long back in this country and im staggered by the amount of dog poop that is around on high streets and pavements. Have the councils in London decided to cut back on street cleaning programmes and are dog owners becoming more irresponsible then before?

Its quite shocking to say the least.

The country is a hell of a lot bigger than just London you know. Im 200 miles away and i cant remember the last time i saw dog crap on the pavements or pathways or even in the parks for that matter.

Really I would never have guessed that.

Funnily enough I flew into Manchester and stayed there for a couple of days to see people and noticed lots up there too.

And dont worry Ill be visitng loads of places on my months return and ill let you know if other towns and cities have a the same problem. Which I reckon they may.

  • Bad on the canalside where im moored at the moment too. People just dont seem to pick it up anymore.

When I was in Canterbury the other weeke there was a fair bit of it on the side streets off the main high street. Though its been a while since I have seen white dog poo.

  • Have to admit here in Sheffield it seems to be pretty well cleaned up. Can't remember the last time I saw some but then again I've always been quite impressed at how clean Sheffield is kept in general!

I'm 200mls from London as well, but you obviously don't live in my road. I think they should rename it Carp Lane.
And yet whenever the subject comes up on local radio discussions or letters in the local press you get irate dog owners shouting "my dog doesn't make a mess, i clean up after it"
    Well it's someones dog !

A few months ago we had our car vandalised on the drive at home so we installed a recording CCTV system. It did the job so well that when the thieves who'd stolen from our car the first time returned weeks later we not only caught them on the system but the Police were able to prosecute.

That aside I also found that the sign out front which said CCTV in operation had the marvellous effect of reducing the amount of dog crap on my drive to virtually nil - until one morning I found a nice fresh pile on my grass. OH was amused by the fact I scrolled through the footage and found the offender with his dog at 9pm the night before (before the clocks went back so it was dark). I didn't recognise him but made a mental note.

About a week later I was driving down the road when I spotted him and his dog walking up the street. I pulled over and asked him if he thought letting his dog do its dirt on my lawn and leaving it was the decent thing to do. He was just about to deny it when I informed him of the exact date and time of this. He looked a little shocked and said "Shall I go and clean it up?". Yes please says I.

When I got back I reviewed the footage again to see a sheepish bloke cleaning my front lawn.

    Its never happened again ;)

Did he purposely take it onto your lawn to have a crap or was it more of a case of the dog running onto your lawn whilst he stood & watched? Either way, he’s got a nerve.

My brother used to live at the end of a cul de sac, and his garden included a small patch of grass that was detached from the rest of the lawn. He was finding a lot of dog’s plop on it and eventually discovered the culprit; some bloke from around the corner was bringing his dog there each evening to do its business. His neighbour caught him at it, and apparently the bloke was having a slash himself at the time!!!

He must have been peed off when he was caught.

He stopped at the end of the drive while the dog (on an extending lead) ambled over onto the grass and did it. He stood and watched it had a shifty look around then wandered off. Probably thought that because it was dark he'd not be seen. Sadly for him he was quite distinctive (dont see many 50+ blokes in baseball caps here) and his dog was reasonably distinctive as well so spotting him again was easy.

It's been a bug bear of mine in this street for some time, you can't walk more than 50 yards down the pavement without finding it and the locals are up in arms. I'd been on at the council for a while but we had 'environmental crime' round last month who posted notices through the entire street saying there were now running patrols in the area because there had been so many complaints. It does seem to have improved a bit, walked my own dog earlier and only had to dodge one pile.
