Argos - Beko washing Machine £179 Do not buy!

The only time i had a washer problem when it wouldn't drain, it was because the pipe taking the water away was too low down. Once the pipe was lifted no problems at all. The part of the outlet pipe with the bend in has to be a certain height from the floor to work properly, if it falls down, the machine won't drain.0

Why are there irrelevant posts on here...the OP is complaning about a washing machine here....beko fridges and cookers have no relevence here as they have very few if any moving parts and as such are expected to last far longer than a washing machine....hardly comparing apples with apples is it
its already been said and i agree the OP should expect the washer to work however much it cost and as for manually draining it thats just stupid..dont these things get water tested at the factory????
if you want to talk about poor quality then just think about servis, no wonder they folded....just wait for it now the comments that "ive had a servis washer since the days of oliver cromwell and its still as good as new" or "ive got a servis teaspoon and its fab id have one of their washers" mmmmm0 -

You could argue that your last paragraph renders your post one of the 'irrelevant' posts that you're complaining about...
People go off topic, don't they? That's what happens when stuff gets discussed. I'm sure there's plenty of useful advice on this thread; the peripheral chit-chat about Beko's reliability (and indeed Servis's) just make things a bit more interesting, really. Nowt wrong with that.
It's also been posted in Praise, Vent and Warnings with a specific title of '... Do not buy!' so to my mind it's an opportunity to discuss the manufacturer generally, not merely a request for consumer advice."Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0 -

actually no, its not off topic, i was trying to make the point that other washing machine manufacturers can churn out poor quality goods, sad fact is business is just one great big cost cutting exercise in order to maximize profits...the comments about oliver cromwell and teaspoons were meant as a little fun.
personally i wouldnt buy the cheapest washing machine in argos anymore (sometimes can be but not always the best idea), good deals for units from "better" manufactures can be had with a little searching around
cheap goods are cheap for a reason..they are made to a price using cheap parts and are "often" amongst the least energy efficient models available.0 -

There's a good chance they don't get water tested at the factory. In many cases for electrical manufacturing, such a small percentage of products have a fault that it's cheaper for the manufacturer to just ship them without testing and handle the small number of returns they get back.0 -
I'm on a tight budget since being made redundant from Engineering / construction job at age of 30 (4yrs ago). Now trying to work 7 cleaning jobs just to get by. Before I was living with my mum - but now in a flat on my own. I have never had to buy any white goods till now. The flat i live in is the size of a postage stamp so space is limited. I did look at price but also the size as I needed the smallest size possible and I needed it delivered. I read good reviews from other customers first and thought with it being in the sale would suit my needs. I've had to wait 2 years to afford it. I had no knowledge on this kind of thing. I am not saying all Beko items are bad - just that the one I got and the customer service at Beko is dreadful. I have since heard a lot from other people they had similar problems. That is why I am put off buying from them again. I would be grateful of any advice on what I should buy instead, someone said that 'I'm a girl and should just know these things' ????0

It arrived at 10am!
I plumbed it in despite the instructions supplied being for a completely different model.
It advises to put it on 60oc which took over 2hrs then it just switched off - no spin or drain and water went everywhere.
Phoned Beko customer services which were useless! They told me to put it on again for another 2 hours. Same again. Then i was told that for the first use you have to manually drain the water into a bucket and put it on yet again for another 2 hours!!!!
Now I have a machine full of water. Argos won't remove it until it has no water in. Beko won't send an Engineer out. So now I have to empty the machine by lifting the machine up into a bucket and await collection in 1 week! Argos said they would refund me £179 but what a nightmare. Now I've heard of others with a similar problem and then something about their fridges catching fire! :mad:0 -

I think the truth of the matter is that no matter what you buy there is a possibility that you will end up with a lemon. Over the years you often hear people say: "I paid extra to avoid exactly this".
Just Google the make and model of anything you are thinking of buying and check to ensure there are not an excessive number of horror stories about either. (Check a few other makes and models to get a good idea of what is typical.)
Don't be put off by one or two bad stories because everything that sells in any quantity is going to yield a couple of those. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0 -

This is exactly it, a small part of the 'premium' your paying for something like a Bosch is its been tested. As you rightly point out Beko's and such are not so you have the grief of performing their quality control for them.
These my xxxx machine lasted 900 years and only cost £99 etc ARE pointless just as some people will have owned a Renault that never broke down doesn't make them top of the reliability tables!
The point being the likelihood of it going wrong, as its made with superior design and manufacture and tested before shipping then ON AVERAGE less people will have less problems with a Bosch than a Beko and anyone claiming otherwise is only fooling themselves.
It like claiming playing the lottery is sure to make you rich, well it does, but only for the few winners.
You pay your money and you take your chances I am afraid, I am a strong believer that the price difference between a cheapo brand and good brand now is not big enough to risk the cheapo ones.
Not to say this is always the case in everything but does apply to white goods.0
