While i didn't axactly arrange our wedding around football (In my case Gaelic Football), I did consider that the championship is over on the 3rd weekend in September so it will all be over before the wedding!

Well yes, but that's different lazer! The GAA championships are only on certain weekends in the summer, and you can time them almost to the day. :D Of course, neither of us being from Dublin or Kerry, I knew that we could get married pretty much any weekend after the provincial final was over. :rotfl:

My Dad and OH have always advised that I can get married between May and August on an odd year... thats the only way to be sure of the two most important men turning up.

Lol - from june - the start of August they are pretty much every weekend (especially in the back door), but then tail off to every couple of weeks and we generally know when they are going to be.

Although it has now been pointed out to me that if the All Ireland Final went to a replay it would be the day after the wedding - not that it is likely too, and definitely not likely that Down will be in it lol!

  • I have arranged my wedding around Ice Hockey season as so many guests have season tickets etc, having said that i have missed the odd game due to weddings etc i don't go on about it as i have a choice i can go to the wedding or game. There will only be 1 wedding (hopefully) but several games within the season to watch.

Because of budget we had our zoo wedding only for the daytime bit, and had to go in October, summer was taken for full day/evening bookings. And we had our evening do at the local football club, knowing we'd have to wait til the televised game finished before we could get in for the evening party. I was sweating on the fixtures praying it wouldn't be a massive televised game as we knew it would have been harder tp get more people out.
As it turned out the big game that day was Liverpool v Man Utd at 12.45....I am a massive Liverpool fan and we got married at 12!! But it made the day fun as our registrar was a Utd fan...there cant be many weddings where the registrar does the signing stuff then says' congratulations, I hope you get stuffed'!! And as we wandered round the zoo for photos I had out photographers partner getting me score updates. Our photographer almost collapsed in disbelief when my logic was on the lines of 'well at the end of the day I'm married whatever, but this could be 3 points for Liverpool'
It continued on our honeymoon when the Manchester derby was on...my hubby is a City fan. We ended up in Malta's official Man City supporters club watching City beat Utd 6-1...not the average honeymoon highlight!!

I don't follow football and really wouldn't care if there was a match on or not!

If guest started complaining, then I would just tell them not to bother coming.

That would be my point of view too. Football doesn't really come close to celebrating the biggest day of someones life in my opinion.(The same goes for Motor Racing incase my OH is reading:p )
