had to get my say in here lol :-), we're getting married august 2014 and most of my dads side are massive football fans (all different teams, which never goes down well anyway!) I hadn't even thought about football until I read this post but now i'm a little nervous, my dads whole year is filled with football, if its not the game its the transfer windows!.
reading all the comments I think that all opinions are right but that the main point might have been overlooked slightly (I mean no offence to anybody by this its just that I think I might have read it with a bit of a different view)
regardless of how annoyed anyone is by the wedding being on the same day as a football match surely its both inappropriate and a little inconsiderate to be moaning about it all over Facebook. everybody knows how stressful planning a wedding can be and trying to start an argument over Facebook isn't going to make it any easier!!
I think your right to be angry about it and I have to say i'm very impressed you haven't said anything, if it was me i would have gone mental by now.
happy planning and I hope you get it sorted soonwedding planning again, this time nothing will stop me :-):A0 -
This is why we had a wedding during closed season - my OH is a die hard Arsenal fan. He also jokes that there's no way he'd have gotten married on a year with an even number either, due to the Euros & World Cup!0

It's just a ruddy game! And I'm from Newcastle too haha!

People will always find something to complain about! We got a lot of hassle for having our wedding on a Friday, which I thought was fairly common nowadays. BIL was banging on for ages about how it might clash with his GF's uni schedule, it didn't and they broke up before the wedding anyway! There are always other things guests could be doing on that day, it comes down to priorities and if they care they will put your wedding before a game! If they don't you are better off without them!0

I'm sorry but football is important,my friends and i all arranged our weddings around the fixtures except one who had a separate room during the reception so we could watch it.Luckily our partners love football as well so there was no arguments.
It's important to you, not everyone. It was your choice to arrange your wedding around it but guests at the OP's wedding shouldn't expect her to do the same.0 -

OP doesn't have to do the same...but that doesn't mean the guests have to like it...0 -
It's your wedding and if people can't forgo the football for one afternoon then it is a very sad state of affairs. Being invited to a wedding is a privilege and you should not expect the wedding to have special things just for you.Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

Idiophreak - it's still rude to b**** and moan about it on FB though.
There's always going to be football on at weekends for most of the year, can't fans cope with missing one teeny weeny league match at the start of the season?? It's not as if they booked it for the date of the world cup final!7 Feb 2012: 10st7lbs

It depends, doesn't it.
If someone puts "OMG! Just found out that Mr & Mrs Spoilsport have organised their wedding to clash with the big cup final! FML!", you'd think they were just having a joke and move on.
If, however, they said "some people are so inconsiderate. It's not my big day, why should I miss the big match?" it would be a different matter.0
