get them to join the Guides or Scouts - cheap summer camps that they'll enjoy & learn loads of useful skills too!

    I second that one!

Year round involvement in skill and confidence building activities plus cheaper summer camps! :D

I've tried getting my daughter into guides but she's always been put off by the actual camping bit. (her mothers fault, I love camping lol)She only went for the summer camp because it was inside in a hostel and more themed to what she enjoyed(performing arts) :)

My daughter went to the Do it 4 Real performing arts summer camp last year too and she absolutely loved it! My daughter went on her own and made loads of new friends there from all over the country. If anyone is thinking about it I'd recommend it - my daughter came back much more confident and willing to put herself up for more things. She has a main part in the school play this year which is something she would have been wary about before. Think it cost about £250 last year but that included everything for the 5 nights. Not sure what it is this year.

I booked my kids on this the other day. They've been for the last 3 years. They absolutely love it. The prices have gone down to £239 (from £270)each per week. Though there was a £160 option where by you drop them off there for the day and collect them at night, which might be worth while if you're local or if your kid is prone to being homesick.

These types of camps are absolutely massive in the States.Have been for years. They were starting to become more popular in recent years, but alas the new Government pulled the plug on their funding. It's good to see the YHA didn't give up on them though and are still trying to keep them going.
  • Where exactly are these camps located?
