Right by the sound of it, we are not allowed to have a life when you are ill, my point of this thread was to highlight the problem with this government and how they have abolished ICB and replaced with noting and after 365 days you will then go on ESA Income, which then forces the local council to pay Rent and Council tax in full.

And according to all the helpful posts I now have to go to get free food, my daughters are at home, in fact both at Uni water rates over 12 months already doing that and what about the fish tanks? Well I have had to give up all of them except one which I have in the living room and NO it does not use up electric as you lot would make out, the cost is about 90p a week. But I expect that is wrong, and how dare I have a hobby I am ill!!!!! Then someone has said my partner is working, GOD read the thread, and as you also think you know the ESA system and asking how many points I have, is noting to do with ESA stopping, as mentioned it is a government law introduced that after 365 days it will STOP Just for the records I had over the 15pts needed and I also do not have medicals like some ESA claimants have to go through.

Yes I am angry but with not every response I take offence to go to the food hall, I have already lost all self esteem and I feel now that I am not entitled to some sort of living that I have to be looking after every penny for the rest of my life, how is that right???? I am 47 , and in pain 24/7 so I do get annoyed very easy, and in hindsight I wish I never posted anything, and if admin are reading this I would like it removed, I will apologise to all the helpful comments and did not mean to offend. This is all I am going to say, as mentioned I am in a very low place so I would appreciate no more comments Thank you

My wife gets a private pension of £90 a month, this is deducted by the government and used as income in. She gets £199 ESA 2 weekly I get £32 2 weekly, no CB or Tax Credit.

You've received a lot of really good advice on here, only you're too angry to appreciate it.

    1. LHA/HB/CTB is based solely on household income and has nothing to do with which benefit you're on. many workers claim these benefits.

    2. If your daughters are at university they'll receive funding to enable them to pay for their rent, keep and spending.

    3. I'm sure it's a good idea to cut down on the fish tanks. On an earlier thread you had several and someone helpfully worked out that this was costing you several pounds a day, so people's advice can help you to save money.

    4. Means tested ESA only stops after 365 days if your household income is over the threshold, not automatically.

I'm sure we're all very sorry that you're ill and in pain, it can't be pleasant for you. Hope things improve.

Op... some good advice... hopefully you can get the ESA situation sorted.. I apologise I'm no expert regarding joint claims and so won't advise. s per Roger... consider DLA applications for suitability. This is actually a really handy link to look at eligibility for that and give advice on the terms etc... http://www.benefitsnow.co.uk/questions/dlagatewayquestions.asp

But I was surprised at the level of your bills... there must be a way to get the gas, electric and water down. As per Roger if not on a meter for water then go for that... even my brother and his wife who use extortionate amounts of water do better metered than not... or at least they did until the recent leak..lol. Gas and electric... there must be ways of improving efficiency here.

My energy bills are high mainly due to the extras used for my disability. My electric is £117 pcm and gas is £92 or similar.

We have worked on cutting these and it can be done. I have just changed supplier and now my monthly amount for both will be £158, and I am hoping we can stick to that and reduce it more.

You may be entitled to DLA as others have said. It is a case of having to cut your cloth. Next year we will have to cut ours even more as we will have two rooms too many and my sons child benefits will cease. We will manage though, it isn't impossible, listen to the advise you have been given.

Unfortunately when reliant on benefits you have to live within your means no matter how many years you have worked.
How people treat you becomes their karma; how you react becomes yours.

Not a very good comment is it?

It was Labour that set the Welfare Reform programme in motion with the introduction of ESA.
If you will remember during the last election Labour refused to comment or give any information out about what would happen with the Reform and how they intended to deal with the mess they caused in the first place.

If you must vote (you don't have to as is going to be the case next time round because everybody I know is fed up to the back teeth with politicians in general) why not go for one of the extreme parties who will have no chance of getting in!

That is the most insulting remark, how dare you presume I voted for the government, you are rude, arrogant and if you ever have the misfortune to have an accident like mine and then lose everything a salary of 22,500 pension and medical care, then you will want support and help, and not rude comment

As already said South West Water has the higgest water bills, I am already on Water Sure Scheme which is £545, which started in April but they have only now sorted my bill out so it is £54 a month.

I am on a prepayment meter for both and I know my Elec is 012.89 per KW not sure on the gas. i am putting in £27 a week electric and in the summer about £20 every 6 weeks gas, then Diesel £30, live in Cornwall its cheaper then using the bus, and as I have mobility problems I use the car. So no leak its just SWW thanks anyhow
  • This is exactly what I mean, WHY do the government treat the ill so badly??? And make us beg for everything

Is there any way to get off prepayment meters? I'm no expert but I would expect they'll be significantly more than the tariffs for monthly direct debits.

Definitely look into DLA though... although ESA and DLA don't directly correlate in terms of criteria (and of course are benefits for different purpose) it would be a little surprising if a couple in support group and WRAG between them didn't have at least one qualify for some DLA award in theory.

As for the water you're not kidding it is expensive. Just for the record I pay a fifth of what you do.. albeit I live alone... it's not a special scheme like that one either.. it's just standard metered. Think I'll rethink my plan to live in Devon..lol

Although I have every sympathy (and did say earlier that those who worked and paid taxes should be entitled to more). I can't agree that they treat the ill so badly. Compared to most counterparts in the world we have an extremely lenient benefit system.

I posted earlier - If you were in the support group - you'd get your money (regardless of income). If you feel you are INCAPABLE of work and hit their descriptors - appeal, appeal and appeal.

If you are capable of work (and I don't know your circumstances) then this is no different to a mother who has limited capacity for work due to childcare and her partner has to support.

Personally I'd be putting my effort into seeing if I hit the Support group but that's just me.

Yes but having children is generally a life choice that you make, becoming too Ill to work generally isn't a choice that you make. That's the difference.
