If that is what you thought then when Wednesday came and you hadn't got paid, what did you think? That would have given you 2 days to realise you had to sign that week.

OP might struggle to hold a job down if he can't remember an appointment that results in him getting his fortnightly money!

Theres every chance this mishap gives the OP the kick up the rear and not do it again, OP make a note on your mobile phones calender or put your signing on booklet in clear view soyou notice it and it reminds you when to sign on next.

I am asking did you not know you hadn't been paid on the Wednesday which would have been 3 days after you thought you had signed? If you thought you had signed the previous Friday then a payment would have been made and since you never got a payment then that's a signal you never signed therefore giving you a few days to check your JSA appointment to realise you have to sign that week and therefore you hadn't missed it.

I can completely understand how it's possible to forget, when I was signing on I would wake up in a panic first thing Friday (I signed on at 9am) trying to remember if that was the day I signed on or not, and since I usually got a lift with a neighbour so it would be organised the evening before it wasn't like I just rolled out of bed and signed on, the week was organised around it. In fact every time my neighbour couldn't remember whether I had gone the week before or not, so I was quite pleased it wasn't just me.

For the job interview - on here we can't advise that you lie, however if you did decide to continue down this route I would give them the details of either a friend or family member who could pretend they had an interview with you. They may only want email proof of it. They probably just need something to put in a box on your form.
However once I wanted to be late for signing on as I had a job interview, and the 2 weeks beforehand I sat there holding all the emails about the interview and they refused to let me be late and said my time wasn't movable which I later found out to be untrue, so it depends entirely on who you get.

I know at midnight on the Tuesday if I haven't been paid. For two days you never looked at your bank account or took out £?

At the end of the day there is no excuse other than illness (and you let them know) or an interview (same thing) for missing a sign on and never lie and think you can get out of it as it will and has backfired on you.
