Missed sign on date

Right the other week i missed my sign on date i thought it was the Friday after anyway Wednesday came and i realised i had missed a Friday so went and checked my sign on book and realised i had missed my sign on date so i rang the job centre up and got a appointment to explain why i missed it. In the interview i panicked and said i had a job interview in the morning and just forgot to sign on and that i had remembered today so trying to get it sorted and last Saturday i received a letter to write down why i missed the sign on so now im stuck do i come clear and say sorry i panicked and said i had a interview or what.

i know it was stupid of me for lying i just thought it would of stopped there but now they want the details of the company i went to

Tell the truth all i can advise, should never miss a signing day as it's normally the same time and day once a fortnight. if you have an interview which clashes best to ring before hand to arrange another time earlier or later than your normal time.

    Tell the truth.

Im sorry, but how can someone with no job and all the time in the world miss a 20min appointment with the one place that is paying you money to put food on your table and pay your bills.

Tell the truth, no idea how you could misss a sign on, you get used to whe the sign on date and time is so it becomes like clockwork, pretty much like a job. Your jsa might well be suspended as you broke the agreement.

My daughter overlaid for her first signing on - after practicing my French I took her up there and she was panicking about what to say to them. After considering job interviews etc etc I said the best 'fib' was to say we got held up on the way as I knew they may well check. Anyway, they advised her she would normally have been sent a letter reprimanding and warning her but she wouldn't have lost the benefit for missing one signing on is how I understand it. I guess 'forgetting' once would be okay perhaps?

Obviously, you've already told them something that is 'checkable' - I should think the truth now is the best way although I don't know what sanctions may be brought in - perhaps just a warning for a one-off? Alternatively, I don't really like to advise anyone to lie to an authority, but if someone comes along who knows the DSS may be very heavy on you perhaps you could consider a lie that sorta fits what you said and can sorta be checked out - eg phoning for a job - a friend with a company or looking for a cleaner?
I've said this as my work placement at a work club has shown me how randomly harsh the JC can be - a lady was not allowed to miss work club to take her 12 year old for a CAT scan - or if she did she would lose benefits - one not applying for a job she could not possibly travel to lost her benefits until appeal and the advisor told her she'd have been better pretending she had applied!! OTOH I my friend's son has missed signing, failed to turn up for interviews and fills in application forms incredibly poorly with no follow up.

I expect someone who knows more about your best move will be along to help you out shortly. The only real advise I can offer is be very careful and don't make a habit of it!! Maybe put an alarm/reminder on your phone next time?
    Best of luck!

Not sure what the consequences are when missing appointments, not even sure if a first time means a suspension of JSA, maybe look in the agreement you got.
  • Good luck, I did this many years back and was alright, though I guess they are nowadays a little more strict, I do have sympathy and hopefully they'll not be too hard on you if you are contrite and apologetic. The Job Centre I go to has a sign saying if you miss a signing on date you are sanctioned for a week.

I do not know how anyone forgets to sign on. Especially when you get your money every two weeks and you would know when that is due and it all relies on your turning up on the date set at the time set to do so.

To then lie on top of that makes it worse as they will now insist you tell them who you had the interview with and when you tell them you lied I can only guess that will make it a lot worse.

You could have said you called and said you were ill and that they were going to call you back but waited for a call and it never happened. A bit harder to prove but more believable than an interview that never happened.

Sorry but how would you think it's every 3 weeks if you have your mind on things? You get your money 3 days after you sign so if you haven't had any money for 2 weeks that's a clue you need to sign.

How long have you been signing for?
