Besides, I don't think the OP would be up to defeating the windows genuine protection in windows 7 (no offence OP!), so Id say its a genuine copy.0

Yes, I can see that some were supplied Windows 7.
You can also run System Restore from within the Windows 7 DVD Recovery Environment.
I didn't assume that the OP installed it. Remember that they wrote that it was 'second hand'.0 -
Window 7 label at the bottom says starter and its not XP, thats on my PC, it Microsoft office 2000, which I had put on.0

Press and hold the power button for about 5 seconds until it switches off.
Switch back on and immediately press F8 key to bring up a menu. Move highlight bar down to "Last Known Configuration That worked" with the arrow keys on keyboard, then press Enter key. May take longer than usual to start. Post back what happens.How do I add a signature?0 -

managed to re-start it in safe mode, it re-loaded window programs, I now have a proper toolbar at the bottom with all the icons in the right place etc. However, USB ports not working, how do I fix them? I am NOT attempting to try and fix it myself, without instructions.0

Are you still in Safe Mode?
Start > Type restore into the search box > Click System Restore. Select a restore point prior to when you installed the DVD drive.How do I add a signature?0 -
