    hi

    the computor is with vista it is a compaq but has a hewel packard label on aswell. its quite an up to date computor with a 5 in 1 reader and hdmi with a built in webcam. I have tried rebooting the modem, and would even like to try and restore it back to its factory condition as i have saved what i need of it.

    if you are saying i need to change it to a less secure system wep? how i do this, also when i came back on my other laptop there was a message coming up that another computor was trying to access on this ip adress? never had that before

    any help would be greatfully received
    and many thanks for your replies

    thankyou

    The IPConfig shows the wifi is connecting to the router.

    Run SINO again, this time checking just 'Ping' and post the report for that.

    These are generic instructions as I am not familiar with that router and don't have time right now to find an online manual..

    On the machine with an internet connection. open your internet browser and in the address bar type:

    192.168.0.1 then press the Enter key.

    Enter your router login details (usually found on the bottom of the router or a card supplied with it - note: this is NOT the security code you entered to connect to wifi)

    Using the menus, find the section about Wireless Security. Then find Security Mode (usually a dropdown list, wording may be different) It's likely to be set to WPA2 - Personal. Change this to WEP and save the change.

    Now on the problematic laptop try connecting wifi again. Check in Network and Sharing Center that it no longer says Unidentified Network.

    @jewls

    Did you do the ping test with just the wifi? i.e. with the ethernet cable disconnected?

    If it's a Sagem F@ST 2504 the interface should look something like this. Instructions detailing how to change the wireless channel can be found here if they're needed.

    There's also an unofficial forum.
