How many hours do they have you as working and what were your usual/average weekly hours? This might be what they're looking at...if you're claiming WTC they'll want to check you're working the required hours.my income in 2010/2011 was estimated at 14000 and was 9000 and something and i got 2500 one off payment when i renewed last april...and this year it was estimated at 9800 and something and was 5997... i work in domicillary care so the hours fluctuate all the time we are contracted to zero hours as we arent guaranteed hours... hope this makes sense lol
If it varies a lot this can be messy, see http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/tctmanual/TCTM02450.htm0 -

Presume you're a single parent? Are you getting the 30 hour WTC element (check your last award).between 20 and 30 hours... but some weeks like this week i work 40 and next week im working 20 confusing lol i know....i sent my work contract off, p60 ,childcare receipts for a year and a years wage slips i just hope its enough to finally sort it out..:s
If not, you should be OK as your hours seem to be well over the 16 you need, and you should get a lump sum for the underpayment of maybe around £1200.
If you are getting the 30 hour element and you normally work less they could theoretically fine you for not telling them (as it's something you must tell them if your hours drop below 30) but they'll probably just take it off you, which would wipe out most of the underpayment.0 -

Don't worry about it - I very much doubt they'd fine you, but they might take the 30 hour element off you. It's worth £790, but the underpayment because of your lower income will probably be about £1200 so overall they'll likely still owe you, about £400 or so. And the max fine is £300 so you're up even if they do fine you, which is unlikely.some weeks i work less and others more so i just thought if it evened out i would be ok and wouldnt have to tell them....looks like im in touble then

            Hi n111c,
I didn't ask how long it would take to sort out.
I was too shocked when she told me I had until the end of the month. I didn't know at that point that my bank statements were going to take 10 working days. I was going to call her back but I didn't bother.
I have checked the letter and they didn't ask for payslips from me.
I presumed they could check that themselves :-)

Some Government Departments (HMRC for one) can take six weeks just to open their mail."There are not enough superlatives in the English language to describe a 'Princess Coronation' locomotive in full cry. We shall never see their like again". O S Nock0

Based upon your income, your hours average out at 19pw based on NMW, so if there are weeks you are working 40hpw, there must be weeks working 0 hrs or under 16 certainly. I'm assuming from a later post you have been claiming to work 30+hpw despite your income showing you work nowhere near that amount?0
