                    Hi all,
Not posted on here for along time, so please bare with me.
Basically we have just bought a property through Barratts and used there recommended solicitor for all the legal things.
Anyway.....We paid a deposit up front for the searches and such like and then they sent us a final bill to be paid on completion.
We visited there offices and paid them the outstanding amount requested by bankers draft to there account, and signed lots of forms and completed the sale......Any how a month later we got a letter stating that they had made a mistake and that we now owe £200 as they forgot to put down the £200 land registry fee!!
Surely this is not our fault and they should foot the bill due to there lack of incompetence first of all! Also it clearly states that they have made a mistake so are they not accepting liability there?
They have now given us 14 days to pay this £200 and to be honest due to just buying a house its a lot of money that we didn't budget for as we were told the bill was £200 less.
Please help and advise!
Liam.

If they had to pay it on your behalf why shouldn't you reimburse them unless you were quoted a specific figure before.0

well if you look at the final amount to complete (which we have paid in full) then this is all there requesting....Now there wanting more!
Its like filling your car up knowing the price, and then getting a letter in the post saying actually its 43p more a litre due to the fact the tanker broke down on its way to the station you used, and of cause as the petroleum company we have paid this on your behalf so you can fill your tank. If the mistake had been the other way (ie you were overcharged) would you expect then to pay you back?0

Which they would.0 -
yes i would but were a customer, and they are meant to be a professional company!? Hence why you go to solicitors for conveyancing and not a corner shop. I totally understand the predicament, but if you bought a car lets say and then got a bill in a months time for something they was involved in its bill outside your final invoice, would you pay it?
A final bill, is a final bill. Other wise they can put what they want on after completion?! Well this is what i thought anyway :-S
So what your saying is, if a bill states a price, then dont even look at it as it might be right or wrong...Brill.0 -
OP, you should edit your post, you give your address, your mortgage ac no and your full name, unless you've used someone else's as your username. As dor the £200, you owe it, contact the solicitor and see if you can make an arrangement to pay it as it is their error you didn't budget for it.0

you might want to edit the post that gives the address of your house. etc :eek:Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson
