We have a new Sk:n clinic just opened and I wondered if anyone has experience them for laser hair removal. I am not good at looking after my eyebrows, they come in quicker then I can pluck and am looking for a more permanent solution. Any advice would be appreciated.0

hi there, i've visited a London branch and although it was tiny, not brand new inside & in a dodgy spot above a chinese restaurant, the actual laser hair removal was successful. I had used a different clinic previously which was OK but they changed their laser half way through my course of treatments and it wasn't as effective. After seeing these on Channel 4 thought I wld give them a go. The result was much better, the laser is stronger and you can see the difference after one visit. the hairs take longer to grow back. however, it's not a miracle worker and you will need several treatments for stubborn thicker hairs. i've had 3 treatments on upper lip & chin and after my next 1, think that should be it. recommended it to a friend who has thicker denser hair & she's pretty amazed with the results. the only thing they don't tell you is that although the hairs are destroyed, your body is programmed to grow hair, it doesn't know that it has to stop, so we've both seen them sprout in areas they didn't before but only a few and not a noticeable problem. it doesn't happen to everyone tho so not a reason to avoid. i'd say go, the freedom of never having to pluck / wax / shave again is fantastic. if this lasts 5yrs and i have to do it all again in a further 5yrs it's well worth the money. it doesn't hurt that much & doesn't really go that red either so go for it! i have dark hair and olive skin, friend has dark hair & white skin (scottish too). i'm going to get my bikini line done next.0

I was told this at the Sk:n clinic I go to in the North West as well as numerous other things that might happen like skin pigmentation changes etc they were very thorough in explaining the risks and possible unwanted side effects but I haven't had any problems at all.
They made it very clear from the start that its not permanent and that I may need a top-up every few months or so and the result varies from person to person. Considering I used to spend at least an hour a night plucking, the massive reduction I have seen with it is definately worth it even if I do have to go back.
I had chin and upper lip done, chin took 6 and top lip I am on 4 (very very coarse dark hair and pale skin) but so far I am absolutely delighted with the results and looking to get other things like eyebrows done0 -

Yes. I've had laser hair removal on my legs, underarms & bikini area, in Portsmouth. It is fantastic. The best money by far that I have ever spent. And most probably will ever spend.
I will be strongly encouraging and paying for both my daughters to have as much of it as they want as soon as they can (18 I think). Can't recommend it highly enough. :T
Re: advice. I have quite a high pain threshold (2 x gas & air labours) but find it quite painful (annoying would be more accurate), especially at certain times during my monthly cycle. Thus I learnt to avoid ovulation and menstruation weeks as well as taking strong painkillers an hour before treatment. And then it's fine. Some clinics (not skin) will not treat the eyebrow area at all. I'm sure Skin do (unless they have changed the policy here), but only the area inbetween the eyes and not the brows themselves.

HTH.
Yes I remember reading this somewhere in the Sk:n literature that they only do the in-between bit. Possibly because its too near your eyes to do the other parts0 -
Thank you all very much for your advice. I shall pop in and see what they say. Quite prepared for a course and not just one treatment, I think plucked eyebrows make my eyes appear more open, so it sounds as if it would be well worth it. I do not have a regular beauty salon that I go to to use and I think Sk:n were offering a 25% discount opening offer so will give them a try.0

I got a Rio unit on Ebay several months ago, and so far no improvement at all. I've treated the same hairs everyday sometimes, and they still don't fall out (as the DVD says they will when properly treated). I have tried very hard to exactly follow the instructions and have the ideal skin and hair colour/type. VERY disappointed.
I read on other forums that the home units don't have enough power to work. They do produce heat since they burn the hair on the skins surface, but the root seems to be too resilient :mad:0 -
Hello there!
I have a basically all-over defuzz session booked this evening and I was thinking about adding a brazilian wax to my list of waxes. I usually shave that area completely, but find shaving the top of the mound quite difficult due to the fact I'm a bit overweight and it's a bit rounder than it ought to be at the moment!
I've heard brazilian waxes can be quite painful and quite painful on the purse too! Has anyone here had one and can you tell me how much/if it hurt and how much you paid for it?
I'm a little nervous about the idea since I'm a big wuss when it comes to pain (I have a high pain threshold, but tend to work myself up a bit if I think something is going to hurt and make things worse! lol)plus the only people who have ever seen me "down there" have been boyfriends!

Take a couple of paracetemol/painkillers before you go
I don't quite have a Brazilian, but I do have a 'high' bikini wax done. It's not painful, just a bit ouch and then it's done.
You do have to watch out for ingrowing hairs.

About 10grams of paracetamol ought to do it, right? I can't feel it if I'm dead!!
I'll let you know how it goes, though it will likely be a horror story being the gigantic wuss I am. Thanks for the reassurance though.0
