    Sometimes posters make it hard for themselves, effectively posting "what do we do - we can't give the keys back on the day after we move out" suggests that someone isn't perhaps capable of seeing the very straightforward answer in front of them - get moved out the day the tenancy ends and get down to the LA office before close of business (see my previous post saying exactly that) That shouldn't be hard because the OP has already said that they have a two week overlap with th eproperty that they are in the process of moving to

    S/he has no right to demand that the final inspection be done on the move out day - as I said that does not mean that s/he cannot *ask* the LA/LL to do just that.

    The OP also chose not to answer questions that were being asked by other posters in an attempt by them to clarify matters

    The fact is that it is of course an open forum - OPs don't "own" the thread. Franklee and jj's discussion may well prove useful to other readers of the thread.

    Extract from Tessa's blog post:
    "The only exception to this that I can see is if the tenant leaves on or very shortly before the date for possession given in the section 21 notice. I don’t think it is reasonable for a tenant to have to give notice in this situation unless perhaps he has agreed with the landlord that he will be staying on."

    Which agrees with what I've been posting based on what Painsmith said all along and that I quoted from Painsmith in post #7 of this thread. I think that clears this up nicely. The tenant doesn't need to serve their own notice if leaving on the date for possession given in the section 21 notice :)
