Finally got it sorted, thanks for everyone's help.

A good friend has loaned me the money to buy the car and put 6 months tax on it and also to cover the 1st months insurance. I can pay them back with low monthly payments and no interest. Although I think a huge bunch of flowers will be heading her way......

Well, just make sure that you do pay it back and also that she has priority over any other claims on your income. Thank her very nicely.
I can afford anything that I want.
Just so long as I don't want much.

Maybe a meal and/or a bottle of wine as well since she has been very helpful.

Hmm... don't go overboard, remember in a way, it's HER money you're kind of using.

I wasnt implying use the friends money but more the OP uses some of the wages they receive once paid but also dont go overboard after this is a money saving forum.

Very true. I even offered to pay her interest on the loan but she refused... I will draw up something in writing to prove I have loaned the money with a repayment plan. She said to pay back £100 a month, but I will probably pay her more each month to clear it off.

    A very good friend indeed.

She is classed as my 'second Mum'.... As my OH doesn't like musicals like I do, we often go to London to see shows together. We are always there for each other when we need help, I fix her computer every time it breaks, give her lifts (when I had a car before). And she always gives good advice. She is a great friend to have. We have known each other for about 20 years +

The car allowance will taxed and assumed by HMRC as an extension to salary. Also some companies insist that if they pay a car allowance they might insist car is less than 6 years old. Finally, make sure you tell insurance that it is for business use otherwise your cover is void when going from site to site as standard insurance only covers comute to usual place of work.
