Borrow the motor, not the money?
Parents cannot drive, so not an option and all my mates use their cars....
My garage friend has a car for £650 and look good, just need to find the funds somehow, benefits agency do not do loans for cars....If the world is a stage... I want better lighting!0 -
Maybe try approaching your future employer and explaining the situation, maybe they'll consider advancing you some of your car allowance to help out?
Presumably they know you have been out of work and will understand that you don't have the funds to go out and buy a car before you have recevied any income from them?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -

I have been tempted to do that, but I do not want to jinx any prospects with them. I do not like asking employers for money before I have started working for them..If the world is a stage... I want better lighting!0 -

What about reply number 6 which was ask the employer if they have 1 you can use.0 -

I'd understand your relucatance but its difficult to think of alternatives.
I would try just having a quiet word with someone from the employers - maybe the HR department? - they may even have a pool car you could use for the first few weeks?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
If you dont get the money to buy a car plus insurance for when you start you wont have a job so why not have a word with HR, im sure you wouldnt be the first 1 they have had in this situation.0

You haven't started the job yet so are you still on JSA? How about trying for a crisis loan? I don't know too much about them, so it may not be suitable but others may know.0

You either need to get work to pay an advance or sort you a vehicle in the short term, not turning up on day one at your new job will
Probably mean no new job. In the short term hiring an astra van may be the cheapest thing, you can get these for less than seventy quid a week with low mileage.0 -
Can you get access to a few hundred from friends or relatives? if so get a auction special with 2 months tax and MOT that should tide you over.
Mate of mine used to pick up a propper banger every 3 months for about £100. Otherwise have you tried asking Bank of mum and dad to borrow their car?0 -
Not asked friends yet, may have to. Parents do not drive, so that option is not available.
My contract came through today detailing my salary and car allowance, just need the car lol...If the world is a stage... I want better lighting!0
