Abetorius - I think you should go ahead and apply for the Egg mini cash ISA. I'd be surprised if they rejected you.
Thanks to Kazza and Suzey, I will check out and probably apply for the egg isa, does it still look like the best option for me? or would I be better with something else?0 -
It looks like a very good start - I wish my first ISA had paid that much!!!
Let us know how you get on.

Did NS&I not cancel your application when you asked them to, then? Have you managed to open the account?

So im unable to open an isa for the 06/07 year, i only have myself to blame i guess because i left it so late. Anyway as i applied for an NS&I isa for the 06/07 year and got a letter asking me to sign and return the form to confirm my application, i have just sent it to them.
I have my doubts about whether or not the confirmation will get to them in time for thursday. Worth a try.

Abetorius, you could still open the top paying Barclays 6.5% with £1 now and add further amounts during the year. NS&I is out because of the £1000 minimum opening deposit. Note with Barclays the rate drops 12 months after the opening date so it pays to save as much as possible from the beginning to take advantage of the excellent rate.0

There is only 1 Barclays branch here and it's in the centre of town, I can't afford to keep traveling back and forth if I need to go to the branch to sort it out etc.
I'm quite partial to my online banking and it dosen't look like the Barclays account offers any online services at all.0 -
I am going to put the £3K mini cash ISA allowance with Barclays however I have £26.5K to transfer in. I thought about Abbey Direct ISA at 5.75% or Northern Rock 6.01% (fixed for a year). I also read someone say hold off till mid-May when interest rates may rise again. Does anybody know whether Abbey or Northern Rock have a maximum limit you can transfer in? What do you think? Should I hold off till mid-May?0

lesleyfb - Northern Rock said nothing to a member of my family about a maximum limit for transfers-in of past years' ISAs (likewise TOISA re old TESSA funds). The amount exceeds your total, so reckon you would be fine. Re waiting for next possible (likely?) Base Rate rise, I decided Northern Rock's 6.01% was so much better than my old provider's 5.55% that I've gone ahead. Sadly, however, nil interest is earned on the £'s starting the day the old provider writes+posts the cheque and the 3rd banking day after the new provider banks the cheque.0

I did managed to open an account with NS&I. As i made the application on the 28th March thats when the account opened, i sent the confirmation a week later after i changed my mind. I guess i was lucky. Made £4.40 interest in the first week
Thanks for the concern SuzeyI would like to say thanks to all the members for the advice i was given, without this i would never have opened an account.
Thanks guys!0
