I hadn't heard of UTB either - the bank is FSA authorised 204463 - United Trust Bank Limited , a web search brought up this thread from late 2008 which may be of interest.
That is interesting. Thanks for that.0 -
A quick question about the A&L 1 year fixed rate isa, does anyone know if you can add funds to it after april, i can't find anywhere on the site that says you can't.
I am thinking about transfering my isa asap, and would like to add funds in the new tax year, but the majority of isa companies don't allow top ups during the fixed rate term.
Any help would be very much appreciated, as if i can't add to it, i will tranfer to the Cheshire bs instead0 -

*If you are aged 50 or over by 5 April 2010 your annual cash ISA allowance is £5,100. If you are aged under 50, the limit is £3,600 this tax year. If you already hold a Fixed Rate ISA with us and qualify for the increased allowance this tax year, you may top your ISA up until 17 November 2009.
Now that is strange as I have just topped up a one year reward ISA to £5100 (I wonder if i have broken a rule)0 -
I suddenly realised that this sentence refering to the Julian Hodge 1 year FRISA: 'The minimum opening deposit for this ISA is £3,000 if you are transferring into it.' might mean something different than what I assumed.
Does that mean that you have to subscribe £3000 new money on top of the balance you're transferring or does it mean that your transfer balance must be more than £3000? It's not really clear in the T&Cs.
I have a balance larger than that which I want to transfer, but I don't want to pay any of this year's allowance into it.
Also, does anyone know if you have to fill in both the transfer form and the Cash ISA application form when applying? They are more or less the same as each other.0 -
I looked at this account earlier and decided it wasn't worth the hassle of moving. However with all these accounts, you seem to have to fill in first of all an Application form to open such an account and then you have to fill in second the Transfer form which is then passed to your old provider for them to send the ISA to the new provider.0

Just ring them on their freephone number, 0800 840 2810, with your queries and (from my own experience of their excellent customer service) they will give you the official answer your questions.0 -
My Dads Natwest ISA has now dropped to .95% so am looking for alternatives for him.
The Skipton 3.2% to 31/5/2011 looks an option as does the Halifax or C&G fixed 3.5% over 2 years.
The Abbey and A&L options mentioned in the list at the start don't seem available now as the best 2 year I an see from Santander is 3% fixed or am I missing something ?
The other one that catches the eye is the 3.33% fixed 1 year from the Bank of Cyprus but the fact "We are part of Bank of Cyprus Public Company Limited which is based in Cyprus. Most of our depositors are covered by the Cypriot Deposit Protection Scheme (the Scheme), which is also based in Cyprus" also catches the eye !
Anybody any experience of them or in view of the overseas issues are they best left alone !
Thanks in advance

Thanks - yes staring at you that one that one isn't it
