Thats good. So if i take my full driving license and a bank statement that should be enough for proof of identity?

Also, my bank account doesn't allow me to write cheques. Is there anyway i could transfer all the money from my Natwest account to the ISA?

Or is it possible to go to natwest and withdraw the full amount in person, as i can only withdraw £250 from a cash machine at one time.

You might not have the facility to write a cheque out yourself but if you pop into the branch, they can write a cheque for you at the counter. Just take your card along and as long as you have the funds it is easily done.

Here is the list of ID Barclays will accept.

I don't think there is enough time to initiate a transfer from a non-Barclays account. Even though Natwest haven't provided you with a cheque book they may be able to issue you with a (personal) cheque, if requested. Some banks/building societies do have this facility, Coventry BS being one.

No - it's probably not advisable to walk around with £3,000 in cash. Natwest would require ID and probably advance notice before allowing a £3,000 withdrawal. I think visiting a branch with ID and requesting a cheque might be the best course of action. Then you could take it along to Barclays which would ensure that the Barclays ISA was opened before the end of this tax year.

Oh, will the cheque be cleared by the 5th? I heard it can take 7 days.

Once the cheque and application form have been handed over to Barclays by April 5th 2007, it doesn't matter if the cheque clears after this date just as long as they have it in their possession before the end of the tax year.

Well that was a waste of time. Found out that natwest couldn't do a cheque for me at all because of the account im on, also as barclays only accept a cheque and a transfer from a barclays current account its not possible to open one.

So im unable to open an isa for the 06/07 year, i only have myself to blame i guess because i left it so late. Anyway as i applied for an NS&I isa for the 06/07 year and got a letter asking me to sign and return the form to confirm my application, i have just sent it to them.

I have my doubts about whether or not the confirmation will get to them in time for thursday. Worth a try.

I learnt a valuable lesson, basically not leave things to the last minute :(
