Yep, OP and Aardvaark need to reassess their driving as they're a danger on the road at the moment.
When joining a motorway (or any other road) you must give way to the traffic already on the road. A slip road lets you MATCH the speed of the traffic on the road. If it's 70, do 70, if it's 60, do 60, if it's 3MPH in a traffic jam, that's what you're stuck with. Match the speed, find a gap (there will be one of course, because everyone will be driving with the correct stopping distance in front of them, and will be courteous to you!) and merge in. With an indication of course.
What you don't do is go to the end of the slip road and then slow down or stop. This is hugely unsafe and awful driving. If you're not capable, get some training or avoid slip roads.
As a more advanced point, you shouldn't be advised to move out to let people into the inside lane, as people seem to just do this these days without thinking, often getting in the way of faster traffic.

    Leaving the motorway

    272

Unless signs indicate that a lane leads directly off the motorway, you will normally leave the motorway by a slip road on your left. You should
    • watch for the signs letting you know you are getting near your exit
    • move into the left-hand lane well before reaching your exit
    • signal left in good time and reduce your speed on the slip road as necessary
Just a reminder for drivers who slow before joining the slip road. That's what its for.
Not all slip roads are long enough to always do that safely. The new slip roads off the northbound A1 at Stamford are a perfect example. Which is why as a driver staying on the motorway/dual carriageway you should be aware of drivers entering AND leaving the carriageway and take appropriate action when necessary.

Absolutely - this why the sort of driver who charges down the slip road expecting (or assuming) that people will move over is dangerous. The driver in Lane 1 may not be able to move over safely - if the joining driver tries to pressure them into an unsafe lane change - who's at fault?
I need to think of something new here...

Good job there isnt to many like you on the roads, I think you should stick to single carriageways the roads would be a safer place

thanks for that link. Being from Norwich there are some interesting videos from Tony
  • Get a move on, if you mince about no one will let you in (including me), no on wants some timid little thing pulling in front and displaying their safe driving technique and causing dealys whilst they perform.

Show you know how to drive competently and people are happy to let you in because you wont hold them up.

Its only normal driving, nothing too drastic.
