If removing and restoring WMP via the Control Panel doesn't help and you have access to original installation media for Vista you could try opening a command prompt and typing this:
sfc /scannow
Note however that you may need to (re)install the latest service pack(s) and associated updates should the System File Checker find anything amiss.0 -
Hi Dave, thanks for link, but the download said it does not apply to my system , whatever that meant.
Either, it,s already on, or it,s not required?
Didn,t expand on why
I thought you said that you were on Vista.
Please clarify:- Which version of Windows are you using
- Which version of Windows Media Player?

hi dave, i,m on vista premium.don,t know which version of wmp, but assume it,s 11, because, when I went to link for download, it said xp was outdated (11) vista was on by default, and when I tried to instal 11xp,just to see what happened, it said I had a more up to date version on, but not what.I thought you said that you were on Vista.
Please clarify:- Which version of Windows are you using
- Which version of Windows Media Player?
Dave
never tried 12, but isn,t that 12?
I cannot open it, and I cannot locate files, , so assume it was corrupted when I re-installed , or rolled system back to factory settings a while ago, using . acer e-recovery, not cd,s. then updated windows. 4oo, and more;0 -

In that case I suggest using Acer eRecovery again.

It looks like WMP11 is "built-in" to Windows Vista and not available as a separate download.
While searching around for an answer I found this which may be worth a try
FYI WMP12 is only available for Windows 7 and above
Sorry I can't be more helpful as I don't have Vista.
Dave
PS Just tried it on WMP11 / XP with no ill effects. Now rebuilding the database - as expected.0
