Button Jar!

I inherited my mums ancient chocolate tin full of buttons. It holds very fond memories of sifting through it as a child. My DS loves sorting through them, although I'm quite protective of the buttons in it.
Never thought of starting my own button collection. I don't seem to have many things with buttons on these days. I'll have to find a suitable receptacle and start one for DS :T0 -
I grew up thinking a button tin was a standard piece of household equipment!
I keep the spare buttons from 'new' clothes in one place (usually labelled with the garment details ... yes, SAD!) and my collection of 'will come in useful one day' buttons in a big tin. I did use a plastic sweet jar but it perished after 18 years.
I made my son a 'pearly king' fancy dress costume when he was 4. It took ages but was great for using up all those plain shirt buttons. Still had lots left afterwards!I can cook and sew, make flowers grow.0 -
my girls love playing with my button jar too...they make little families with similar coloured buttons.
we also use them to help them practice their maths, and always useful as counters for board games...one day i might actually sew one on a piece of clothing!weaving through the chaos...0 -
My DGS was fascinated when he saw my button box - used for keeping spare buttons, in case you're too young to know what I mean!).
I've always kept one. Do you have one or are they obsolete now?

I do
Some of the buttons are very "vintage" now :rotfl: but the boys even now like to rummage through to see what there is. I love it because I can chop and change buttons all the time, so if I see something I like I can personalise it a little.

I have a sweetie jar filled with buttons! It sits on my windowsill beside my indoor bonsai trees, I love looking at it but all my buttons are just thrown in so it takes ages to actually find the button I want0

I am PenPen and I'm a Button Addict
To my shame, I've also passed this trait to my DD
We have a big Le Parfait jar filled with buttons :j Last weekend we saw both of DD's Grandmas, and she and I raided their collections :j We now need a second jar :rotfl:
DD is an art student, and makes jewellery and textiles using buttons, so they are taken from captivity and given a new lease of life :T

Another one with a button box - I always hang on to them just in case. DH or the children have needed one in the past and always been very impressed that I have someCC1 £5999 Total Debt March 2021 £5999

I have button boxes, too. I just can't resist them - I seem to have passed this trait onto my DGD1 (7year old) because she has a sizeable collection, most of which used to be mine! I'm always adding to my collection, though, and no doubt when she visits us here, she'll be going through them to add to hers! DGS loves to rummage through them, too, but has no urges to have his own collection!KNIT YOUR SQUARE TOTALS:
